A380 Production Sadness

The first paragraph from the newly established Qantas Group Flight Academy:

“Whether it’s flying a Dash 8 across to Longreach or landing a Boeing 787 Dreamliner at Los Angeles, our pilots say they have the best office in the world.”

Nothing about the quads..
I suspect they have enough quad pilots in the pipeline for a fixed or decreasing number of quad aircraft that new entrants will be flying twins only??

More a case of the vast majority of the airline staff having no idea about aircraft. They wouldn't know a quad from a caravan.

Interesting comparison though...Dash 8 and 787 in the same sentence. How's that going to work?

Posturing by BA to get a better deal?

Of course, BA are still running 747s through until 2024 in the last media I read giving Airbus time to sharpen their pencils or no doubt l miss out.

On a side note UPS just ordered 14 x 747 freighters plus some 767s as that production line is still running.

.

Or BA miss out. Goes both ways. Airbus aren't going to sell at a loss for no long term benefit either.

Airbus are yet to make a profit on the 380. But I get your point that a loss on a loss isn't going to work for airbus.

Plenty of used aircraft around - the German owners of the ex-SQ early A380s and MHs fleet

They'll fly themselves!

Of course, most QF staff wouldn't see a plane on a daily basis, just like my industry rail, half our staff do work which would be the same in any business they worked for and either do it from home or an office.

I just figured it was two examples of flying that QF did that are pretty much polar opposites of each other.

A few years back the a380 was the celebrity aircraft, the creme de la creme. Putting first class in it put the aircraft as the epitome of air travel. Now its playing second fiddle. Sad?. No. Each aircraft has its pros and cons and each would appeal on an emotional level in its own way.

I’d like to see a flying wing design or some sort of blended wing design.

QF refused to take any of the initial aircraft that needed the wiring looms redone. I think they expected lots of issues from them, though whether they were as troublesome as expected, I don't know.

They are, but they are also two examples of dramatically different careers. There is no avenue from Qlink to QF, and it's not particularly attractive as a recruiting proposition.

But my actually make operating the A380 cheaper as there will now be competition for parts rather than having to go to Airbus.

Ta, if I haven't read the thread for a while I don't always go back, I do try and scan though but missed it.

To your point, suddenly two planes worth of parts on the market, gives an alternative supplier to Airbus and still a OEM part. If these two couldn't be leased or sold the price pressure on a new 380 will be great, good time to buy if anyone is in the market for a widebody. But who would if you think production is going cease.

Anyone seen the price of Saabs (the road version) lately, cheap as chips.
