I am looking at some redemption's on an A380 in Feb with my girlfriend.
Since we would be traveling together I am wondering if it would be better to do Business or First?
First seems like we may not be able to talk during meals.

Actually it tends to work out the opposite. You can both sit in one suite and share a meal. (The foot rest acts as the "guest" seat.) It is the rest of the flight when you are apart and there is no F seat selection that gets you close together.

For this reason I always find it best to fly F and let MrsH fly J.........and preferably not on the same flight. :p (This may not work for you though.)

And you survive the reunion?

How does that work with meals? I assume they still get J food brought up?
Also I saw a note somewhere saying those foot rests werent great as a seat.
I flew in F on SIA A380 and they did not look pleasant to sit and have a meal.

As TonyHancock notes you can dine together in the F suite where as in J you're sitting side by side. For sleeping you'll be side by side in J* but there will be a divider between you whereas in F you'll be far apart.

*Assuming you get seats beside each other.

Suggest you stick with J, because once the spouse/SO etc gets a taste of F they'll never even go back to J.

Fortunately it doesn't! I have a rather sumptuous feast in F and MrsH enjoys the Rueben Sandwich in J.

......actually we rarely fly together but we have done F and dined together. It is OK really. F isn't designed for couples in general though.

Im beginning to think MrsH is very hard done by...

I always look at it as valuable time apart before the enforced time together of a holiday :)

Flew in F with Mrs GPH. We did once share the table and it was fine. But we actually prefer the solitude that flying in F ( and probably J for that matter) affords. We spend enough time together during the rest of the year ( and on the holiday) so a few hours of quiet time is quite restful.

the gulf between first and business class is huge... the hour or two spent dining (and any slight inconvenience that may cause) is far off set by the enhanced amenities for the rest of your journey.

if you can score first class seats grab them and enjoy!

When we went to Hong Kong in August our lovely FA suggested to me that Mr FM and I might like to dine together. I replied we had been married 32 years. Oh! He gushed, so you will definitely want to be together for the meal. He cracked up when I replied that after 32 years we enjoyed a break and definitely wouldn't eat together.... Seriously though, by the time you have spent a few hours in the lounge and are going to be spending lots of time together afterwards, just enjoying a bit of quiet time on your own in the lovely F suite is not a bad thing....

If you have the cash do F, if not do J and put in for an F upgrade on one or both legs if you have the points.

We went in F to Europe this year and came back in J, we enjoyed both legs and F is better then J but J is still better then Y. We didn;t dine together in F, and didn't even think about it, but we did enjoy the seats more as they do give you a better sleep then J, but not really worth the extra cash as J is still a good sleep.

You have mentioned redemption for February, I assume you mean February 2015 as you have pretty much zero chance of getting 2 J/F A380 seats for Feb 2014

Sorry went quiet when I saw this.

Just finished booking 2 F SYD - xMEL - LHR on A380 for FEB 14.
Saw availability for SYD -LHR but it disappeared the day I got the points transfer to AA to book.

Had to coordinate to book one with QF and one with AA but its worked out and Ive got via Melbourne as a conciliation prize.
Im relocating so not concerned with using all my points.

Now really looking forward to it.

Congrats on getting them - sure you will enjoy it!

Few questions from SWMBO..

Since we have two QF9 flights will she get two amenity kits or just the one?
