Qantas Introduces A380 Inflight Entertainment Gate to Gate 15 July 2010

Customers can now enjoy the award winning entertainment on the Qantas A380 from the moment they step onboard the aircraft, until the moment they arrive at their destination*. The introduction of gate-to-gate A380 inflight entertainment gives our customers more time to view TV programs or movies, play some games or even just relax and enjoy listening to their very own personalised audio play list.**

Applies to seat back IFE screens only. **Gate to gate audio content can be enjoyed by all customers.

Product highlights:

* Seat-back IFE screens (First and Economy) - Customers travelling in First and Economy will be able access IFE programs from the moment they step onboard the aircraft, until the moment they arrive at their destination. Audio and visual capability is enabled, allowing them to access any feature of the IFE entertainment.
* In-arm IFE screens (Business and Premium Economy) - Customers travelling in Business and Premium Economy will be able to listen to audio content from the moment they step onboard the aircraft, until the moment they arrive at their destination. Customers in these classes can deploy their screen and watch programs during the periods they are advised, which is at the top of ascent, to the top of decent (as per today).

It is good to see Qantas making these sort of improvements. It would be good if/when this flows on to other types.

Not much good for a large portion of posters here travelling in J...

On our recent QF SYD-AKL rtn on 737 IFE was gate to gate except for safety announcement. Sadly for Shrek he was in row 4. The headsets were on seats on boarding and not collected in flight. Happy contented little ogres!

Yup, that's the cross one bears for row 4.:-|

Qantas TT has had GtG IFE on all except one of the Jetconnect 737's since late last year. AirNZ has had it TT for some years.

I thought A380 entertainment was gate to gate.

I flew the A380 in F last year and the FAs never told me to secure the screen away during take off or landing.

I don't normally watch a lot of TV so I just put up the tailcam during take off and landing, but AFAICT there was nothing stopping me going for the other entertainment channels.

I know that the A380 was gate to gate this time last year (but not advertised as such), as I remember I watch an episode of chasers war on everything (which I thought strange QF would put that as an option) whilst sitting on the tarmac in LAX on an LAX to SYD flight...

I thought it was great as I was on board about 45 minutes prior to scheduled departure, and there was only so long I could sit there and look towards the front of the plane admiring its awesomeness... (I figured I had 14+ hours to do that in if I really wanted...)

Back from LAX last month in PE, headsets collected near Top of Descent, IIRC AVOD switched off soon after. Can't even recall being able to watch moving map or tailcam.

Also I can't recall it being available until seat belt signs went off on ascent.

It's a welcome change to have it gate to gate.

On every 388 flight in I have undertaken to date, headsets have been collected at least 20 minutes before landing.

Your spot on Serfty - but they do allow you to continue to use your own if you bring them.
