Hi All,

We recently experienced some vast differences in Emirates J standards between a short haul a380 (5 hours) and a longer haul (9 hours) 773 and wonder if this is normal.

On the a380 it was a 9pm flight. Mattress's were offered even though sleep would have been somewhat limited due to the shortness of the flight, amenity bags distributed, and a wide variety of snacks were available at the bar, once the meal service was over.

on the connecting 773 out of DXB departure was 8:50am. Mattress's were not offered even though there were many connecting passengers who had come from short haul flights and wanted some sleep on the longer haul. No amenity bags were distributed, and the mid flight snacks at the bar consisted of fruit and potato crisps.

Is such a variance normal?

In my experience, yes the variance is normal, the amenity kits on Emirates are only distributed on night time departures. Having been on a 9am 777 from DXB and a 4pm 777 from PRG, I haven't had the full amenity kit distributed, only on a380 because I have only been on evening flights on the a380 .

Also on both occasions, they do not give mattresses on 777 either, I would say its because 8:50am is classified by them as a daytime departure, but I think they can do it on the a380 cause they keep the mattresses in the window boxes, which you don't get on the 777.

In terms of snacks, I would hazard a guess it's probably down to the difference in space they have to work with, but when I went to the business bar flying a380 in F DXB-HKG and asked for a smoothie, which I managed to get on SYD-DXB, I was told by the cabin crew they have them only on Australia flights, so there could be a little bit of regional variance.

Just thinking out loud, but wouldn't a mattress slide off the slope that is the 77W J seat?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I have been on a QF a330 in J, before the refurb I must add, and on the back of the mattress it had a pocket which you slide over the headrest part of the seat. So it dealt with a sloping seat without any issues, and in my opinion 2nd best sleep I've had on a plane.
