Etihad cancels order after test crash

Seems they don't want the plane now....

ETIHAD has cancelled a $250 million aircraft order, ending the most embarrassing affair in the airline's brief history.

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad said the decision was accident related and not linked to the global economic downturn that has caused rival carriers to cancel and postpone the delivery of new aircraft.

An Etihad spokesman said the cancellation related to an A340-600 jet that rammed into a concrete wall, injuring nine people, during engine testing at the Toulouse headquarters of Airbus in November 2007

So it's an Airbus loss because the order was cancelled, although it's cheaper than the alternative of Etihad wanting it still and Airbus having to repair it for free.

Great photo in the article.

It was not going to be repaired, its been scrapped. Actually all EY really did is just say we don't want a replacement, so they drop 1 from the number waiting to be delivered, they still have a couple of A340's to be delivered on the current order i believe.

Its hardly a surprise in the current times anyway.
