A330s out of life

I don't get why Qantas won't add 2-3 rows of premium economy on their a330-200s when they start refurbishing the economy cabins later this year?!? Having PE on them would be an incredible offering on toyko, singapore and hong kong routes and could allow for more premium routes to be operated by the 330. Also on East-West coast routes premium economy would be awesome, why won't Qantas do this?

I'm sure Qantas has run the numbers multiple times.

The issue afaik is what it does to overall yield and the ratio of J travellers downgrading versus Y travellers upgrading.

Particularly when you sometimes have JQ offering a PE (though branded as Business) product on similar routes, and noting that in the forthcoming refurb JQ will have a lot more of these seats

That's the million dollar question.
Having around 14 premium economy seats on the A330s would draw more people to those flights.
Also allows them to charge for extra leg room seats when used on the shorter routes that don't make sense for Y+.

There have been many trips to Asian cities that I haven't booked QF on because they don't have Y+.

To add 14 seats of PE, they'd lose 24 seats of Y. Add to that the additional costs of PE, they'd certainly struggle make more money - especially considering the profile of routes the A330 is operating (lower yield Asia routes)
