I would suggest the lack of A330's would mainly be down to lack of crew with currency, especially pilot's.

Best of luck it stays as that.
Have tried a short dom hop in J on the 330, its great if you have not used the cross seat belt, heh, my first and only one time.
Only MEL - SYD though.
Good to see that some QF flights MEL - BNE do have 332/333.
Luck of the draw.

Actually one can see the aircraft on the available flights before you choose the flight. If they stick. Two flights a day, ATM, BNE MEL are 300s it seems from what I was looking at today.

I'm about to book Per-Syd for early July. Planes are listed as 330 but by the sound of this thread it looks unlikely to stay there. Has anyone been able to check if the 330 is flying from Perth and if it is, is there a regular flight time?

It’s definitely flying - just hard to predict when.

It is never guaranteed that the aircraft type listed at the time of booking will definitely be the aircraft type flying on the day. Change of aircraft type will occur due to operational treasons, particularly if passenger bookings are low (or high for the reverse swap). Changing aircraft type really doesn’t happen all that often, but you never know when it will occur.

If you are going to book J, ($/points upgrade), and are flexible as to days, you can keep changing the flights to the 330.
Analogy, a few years ago, I had a Sat free, and wanted to feel the plush of the dom 330, can't remember if it was a 332/333, but was definitely QF, MEL to SYD, they kept changing the planes to a 737.
I must have rang them up 3 times, each time having to explain to different CSO as to why I wanted the changes.
In the end, I got my wish, got the 332/333 with the side across body seat belt, MEL - SYD.
Did an overnight layover, ADL - MEL the day before, think it was a school holiday time.
It was a paid J, not covered by anyone else, ...
Every time I thought it would stick, they changed it, as to the time of the day.
Had picked the later evening flight to get back SYD - ADL.
Maybe with the flexible changes allowed, you could phone up each time they change the plane from 332/333 to 737, even if you are in subclass of Y.

Also to mention it seems the domestic schedules for A330s are not set. As I did note a few has done SYD-BNE-SYD domestic turns recently, although I'll assume they were either one-offs or last minute substitutions.

Yet another quirk of the airline industry and the one-sided playing field it enjoys. Imagine entering into a contract to buy an SVU, only to be delivered a hatchback and be told 'Sorry, we don't guarantee the type of vehicle'. Or ordering a steak at a restaurant and getting served chicken, then being told 'Sorry, we don't guarantee your choice of meat'.

I think the counter argument is along the lines of “you purchased a flight from A to B”, you did not purchase a flight on a particular aircraft. Using your steak analogy, it would perhaps relate to the type of plate its served on. Having said that, it’s a b/s position…

Interesting that my return flight PER-SYD is showing J0 - while the earlier flight (by two hours), which is a 332, is J9. Wonder if they will consolidate.

What about Economy?

What about Economy?
It is still being sold - so J could be genuinely full I guess...

J0 C0 D0 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 X0 E0

Edit: Checking online there are still economy seats for sale but it states business has no seats - so I guess that answers that.

Urgh.So the 10.20 is now a 333 - four hours earlier - with rewards available. A little early for my liking - decisions, decisions.

At least you have some choices :). Flight options between MEL and PER are slim pickings unfortunately. Particularly annoying when QF & VA are mirroring flight times on most days and the schedule doesn't work.

Things will keep changing, schedules are very unreliable at the moment and I can't blame the airlines for it...

Well how about that.. I was wrong (this does not shock many lol). I am surprised they changed a flight back to a 330. :D
