Good morning,

In case anyone is interested, I just received a call from VA informing me of an aircraft change for VA564 PER-SYD this afternoon from A330 to 738. I was booked in J using a complimentary upgrade on Flexi fare, and my wife was on a separate J points booking; VA had initially just rebooked me on QF566 leaving 20 minutes later, but then also rebooked my wife on the QF flight.

Thumbs up to VA for handling the rebooking very efficiently (although I suspect there will be some less happy customers who are still on the 738 flight).

As an aside, I was hoping for a few status credits from this flight to start rebuilding to Gold - what usually happens in this situation with regard to points and status credits?

Cheers,
Mike

I have had a similar situation but Sydney to Brisbane. Was transferred off VA J to QF J due to delay and I got VA SC's and points and was able to claim online with Qantas and received SC's and points as well.

Interesting! I was on a flight the other month that was cxl'd and VA outright refused to move me to a QF flight, instead downgrading me to an NZ flight in Y. Admittedly it was TT, but still.

Glad to hear it worked out so well for you :D

Very well by the sounds of things! Now to see if I get the double status credits promo as well from Qantas... :D

Perhaps my complaint actually had an effect on how the subs are handled. I was pretty miffed after flying my whole family to Melbourne especially to get on the A330 that we arrived to board a 738. I pointed out it is not a big think to expect business class pax to get a call and be provided some options if desired.

I had a similar a/c sub on VA PER-MEL last year (using a comp J upgrade) and the first I knew of it was when I saw a red plane through the airbridge window as I got the near the door. My seat number existed on both cconfigs (but went from aisle to window). I know some people were downgraded, but luckily for me I wasn't. Sounds like they are being more proactive now which is good.

Definitely a thumbs up for listening to and acting on feedback.

Same downgrade happened to me during December on DJ562 and I ended up on an old 738 in Virgin Blue colours.

I was pretty disappointed given I have yet to experience the new J on the A330, and the meal selection was so poor I ended up requesting the butter chicken from the main cabin.

Woohoo ! Finally got the A332 which I was starting to think was a myth its only taken 6 attempts with the supposedly confirmed A332 subbed 5 times.

Remind me not to take the same flights as you Jama! That is a dreadful set of numbers for subs, glad you finally cracked it. Was it a new or old config?

Wow, you've been very unlucky to have been subbed out 5 times. I've been subbed out three times - though on the third occasion I checked the flight details on the morning of my flight and then managed to get it changed by ringing up myself.

On none of the three occasions have I been given a heads up either via email or by phone. Some notice would be nice, because a lot of us make our choices based on the aircraft. J on an A332 is not the same as J on a 738.

We were J class out of NTL last year, plane didn't leave Melb so was eventually cancelled, we were placed on jet* leaving a couple of hours later, we were traveling back in Y so I rang Plat desk to see if maybe they would upgrade the return flight, nope, sat in row 3 and looked at the empty J class back. :( Guess we were lucky to make it there at all.

Unless in row 1 my feet don't fit comfortably under the seat in front with bed mode.

Nose cam, belly cam I find interesting.

A few other reasons ...
Interesting, didn't really have a problem with leg room on XFE (6'4"),

Good illustration of different things for different pax and why the airlines cant please everyone.

I may have made that sound just a little worse than it was. Twice the A332 I was careful to ensure I was on was subbed for the older A330 both times with non-functional IFE. But still a nice flight with good service and chalk and cheese to the 738. In all, still a bad strike rate and no courtesy calls.

The last flight, not only did I get the new plane I was expecting, I also had 2 seats to myself. It was great. Made myself right at home.

I still wouldn't suggest you take my flights ;)
