This post could go here or the A321XLR thread, but couldn't find that one so posting here.

I came across a business class called the Butterfly Single-Aisle. Effectively it's two recliner business class seats that can be converted into a single lieflat suite. It's quite an interesting concept that would give an airline like QF the flexibility it needs to turn a plane around from an ADL-MEL flight into a MEL-PER/DPS/SIN/AKL/DRW flight.

It could also be sold as Business Recliner and Business Sleeper where the service remains the same (cabin, FAs, food and bev service) but you pay for the extra space or amenity of the lieflat seat. The recliner option could provide a pseudo premium economy on longer flights that otherwise wouldn't have it installed.

A few renders:

Interesting, thanks. But I can't see how they convert to lie-flat? There doesn't appear to be a 'cubby' under the seat in front to accommodate legs?

The window seats have 2 windows, but the middle render, with the 'suite' format, has three windows.

EDIT: I clicked the link to have a look. Doesn't look attractive to me, but may suit some

The seats fold down (like the old SQ business class seats).

It's not an ideal product, and no it's not for everyone. A bit like the finnair seat that doesn't recline at all.

The benefit here is the same as Euro Business. QF can fly a short domestic leg with 24 business recliner seats and then turnaround fly the same aircraft 90min later overnight to PER/SIN with 12 business lieflat suites.

With every aircraft capable of being whatever configuration QF needs, it gives ultimate flexibility.

Whenever I see this seat I wonder how you're meant to get out of the window seat in the recliner setup... Looks like it would be really squeezy, or near impossible if the person in the aisle was reclined!

What’s the relevance of this seat design to the A321?
Do A32x sets of 3 Y seats take up less width than A350 or A380 sets of 3 Y seats?
