A summer in Tasmania

Back to the working week.Monday's dinner back at Bellys.We started sharing a dozen oysters.I then had beef brisket with veggies and mrsdrron the Moroccan spiced quails.Both very nice.

Tuesday and back to Prem's Seafood.Mrsdrron just had a kilo of mussels and I went for 500 Gm.
.

There were superb.
I then had the salt and pepper calamari with a side of orange veggies.
..

Again the calamari was perfectly cooked and I like my orange veggies.

Next day it was back to the M cafe.Nice light lunches.Mrsdrron had the pasta with cheese onion and spinach whilst I had the corn fritters with bacon,poached eggs and hollandaise.both very nice.

After lunch we drove to Ulverstone to get another 2 Kg of Perfecta cherries.A nice day.

Thursday night off to Mrs Jones in Devonport.
Another Tassie white.

Mrsdrron started with the crispy scallop spring rolls and I the beef tartare.

Mrsdrron then had the slow cooked pork belly and i the slow cooked lamb shoulder.

Mrsdrron the had the kaffir lime and coconut pannacotta.Not as nice as last time.

As we left the last plane to DPO went overhead.

Friday and the Heavens opened.Fortunately we were off to Hobart for the weekend and the worst weather was in the north west.We stayed at the Salamanca Terraces as we wanted to go to the Salamanca markets.Showing it's age but we did get bonus points booking through Qantas hotels.

Just over the road is the Lenna hotel where you check in.

Now the reason for picking this place was for it's position.We wanted to visit the Salamanca markets,eat at Rockwall and at the orgiinal Hobart branch of one of our Launceston favourites Kosaten.Basically they were all virtually at the front door.But actually it was one of the few rooms available in the area this weekend and the cheapest.What we hadn't realised that it was a holiday weekend in Hobart for Regatta Day.
So to Kosaten.

The edamame were the same as in Lonnie-very nice.
However the tempura soft shell crab was better.In fact excellent.As was the waygu tataki.

The lamb cutlets and tempura oysters not as good as lonnie.
..

And a dish not on the menu at Lonnie-slow cooked pork belly.Delicious.

So next day to the markets.A nice morning.though quite a few clouds at times.

Some really good stuff and still worth a visit.

But being drron I couldn't go past this.

A good pie.nice pastry good sauce and 9 scallops all for $8.
Though I couldn't have these also for breakfast even though tempted.

My new favourite gin was here with a bit of humour.

Just after we left there was a loud noise.Looking up found the reason.

The Roulettes were putting on a display.

We then went for an afternoon walk around the harbour.Nice flower boxes around Salamanca.

The first signs of autumn.Leaves just starting to turn yellow.

The MONA ferry prepares to depart.

Some old wooden boats here for the Regatta but their special event was cancelled.

Dinner at Rockwall.A Tamar Valley pinot grigio.

For starters mrsdrron had the rock lobster pate and I the seafood chowder.

Both very good.
Mrsdrron had another starter as she knew she was having a dessert.She had the salt and pepper calamari.I had the maple glazed pork chops.

There was a bit too much pepper for mrsdrron on her calamari.My pork was perfect.
Now the dessert mrsdrron had was the Turkish delight pannacotta.She has had it here before and it is very,very nice.

Sunday and time to leave.We parked outside Princes park and I wandered around ad took some pics.

So the high rise is Empress Towers.Would have fantastic views.
Though this little place probably does as well.

Then stopped at various points along Hampden road.Some magnificent buildings.

Brunch and Yum Cha at Me Wah.

So roast duck and a special -salt and pepper salmon.Bland and would have been better going for more traditional items.
The truffled mushroom dumplings were very good.Scallop dumplings OK.

Char sui Bau very good and their special custard tarts.
..

It was OK but not going to rush back.Maybe try this place nearby.

And then time to go home.decided on the long route.After crossing the Derwent at Brighton headed along the north bank of the river on B10.Some nice scenery.

Then headed north on Hollow Tree road.Saw this little fellow.

Next north on B110.Virtually at the junction is this fine house.

At Bothwell you turn on to A7.The Nant distillery is currently closed.A fine church.
Then turn off on to B51 heading past Poatina where we mistakenly stayed in the Chalet.
Views coming down the mountain from the Great Lakes.
