A second airport for Sydney?

Hey can you imagine the landings and takeoffs through the Avon Valley as per the RAAF jets.

It would make the balloon flights interesting

I never suggested that the current SYD airport be closed down. But if there is a second airport then I assume a proportionate number of flights will be switched to the new airport. Maybe domestic flights only or maybe a mixture of domestic and international. I do not want to be in a situation where my flight, ala Avalon, is scheduled out of the new airport at the back of woop woop. I am happy with the current location. Just schedule more flights or build more runways.

Out of Avalon, all flights have been new services not switched from Tullamarine. One would assume (unless the crazy politics associated with SYD force them to) flights would not be transferred from SYD, but new services will be added. As for those in the Western Suburbs, sure no need to build a new airport for them. But if Richmond could be adapted, and there was sufficient demand (and NIMBY politics don't enter into the debate) why not? For years Novacastrians more or less had to fly out of SYD,(and Geelong people out of MEL) whereas now there are numerous jet flights out of NTL and AVV. Same could apply to the west of Sydney.

oz-mark, I live north east of Perth, right near bullsbrook, so we have the RAAF and Yanks when they are in town, flying over our place. As you drive north along Great Northern Highway, you can now see where they have put up signs warning of it being an aircraft noise area.

On a side note, when the Yanks are in town, it is brilliant watching them land and take off.

Ahh but Gingin is still utilised by the RAAF. Also more air traffic in that region will cause significant problems for Pearce, and they will object to that

When discussing this you must remember that the majority of movements at Pearce & Gin Gin are for much smaller and quieter aircraft than the RPT's that frequent the major airports. Therefore some of the discussion has a different perspective to the nose out of a major airport.

Yes, if you read post 27, I lived with my parents for many years, and they still live in the same house. Yes SYD has more flights of the larger planes (not sure on total numbers if you include all the commuter flights to the mines), but PER has the mid night horrors leaving to MEL, SYD, BNE and the INT flights during the night.

Pearce, and Gingin references were in relation to Petch's comments of Jandakot owners wanting to develop and use Gingin more.

Also do they ever land the Hercules at SYD, becuas ethey really shake the place around, and they come in so low. OK, again, not often but they do land there.

Seperate question for you though with your contacts, have they ever landed an Antinov at Pearce?

Off the top of my head I believe the answer is yes and I'd guess it was in 1988 during the becentenary airshow circuit.

It was certainly at Richmond and I think it went to Pearce. I've certainly seen lots of various a/c through Pearce over the years.

Yes the have in the past though I've no recent experience in that area and the 'C130J' model solves a lot of the noise problem :!:

There are a few of us around that think they may have landed an Antinov in the past 2 or 3 years, we felt and saw it coming in, but not sure if that is what it was.
