Hi all, I’ve just returned from a fantastic ‘pilgrimage’ to Longreach where I visited the Qantas Founder Museum and put together a video of the day.
It was incredibly hot (40 degrees) which made things a bit uncomfortable, but the flip-side is that there’s a lot less tourists. On my tour, there were only two passengers and one guide and (as you can see in the footage), there weren’t a lot of people inside the museum either.

I did the $160 Platinum Tour, which is on the pricey side of things, but not bad given what you get.
It starts at 0800, which is perfect in this weather, and includes a guided tour of the 747-200, 707 and the DC-3. You also get to do a wing walk on both 742 and 707, which is a fascinating experience in itself. You then get a $10 meal voucher and access to the museum. The advantage of the platinum tour is that your group will be a max size of 5 people otherwise the jet tours can have up to 35 (IIRC) passengers.

I’m happy to answer any questions.

Thanks. It's a fascinating place, especially considering that it's in the middle of nowhere.

Heading there in 19 days - already booked the Platinum tour (8am start!).

I started a thread to concentrate information as while there is plenty on the place here and there, a dedicated thread to pool the information is the way to go.

Any suggestion as for tucker?
Good choice serfty! The 0800 start is the best especially during this weather!

Feel free to merge this thread, or close it and I'll post my video over there. :)

Really enjoyed the video TR, PaulST!

I visited back in 2013 and had a great time on the Platinum tour (and was lucky to be the only person on the tour).

It was the middle of summer so 40 degrees too, but the motel had a nice cold pool so that did the trick.

Had lunch at the museum cafe and enjoyed the fish and chips, which was served on retired Qantas china...a nice touch.
