May I just take a moment of your time to show what I think is an all-too-rare well designed hotel shower. A micro-topic, for sure, but hotel shower faults come up regularly.

Athens Capital Hotel (Accor), standard room.

First, and most obviously there isn't a bath underneath it!

* Controls are out of the way of the water stream, so you don't get cold water on yourself turning the thing on

* Door opens both ways, so you can put the bathmat directly outside the door, rather than it being swept away by an outwards-opening door

* Drainage channels inside the doorway, so the water doesn't flood out onto the bathroom floor

* An alcove for your own shampoo and soap, notwithstanding the now-usual dispensers

* A towel-hook within the shower (to the left), out of water's reach, so you can towel-off without having to grope for the towel outside the shower

* The marble floors are textured, minimising slipping (unlike my last pace, where the polished marble shower floor was lethal)

* Wand and rain shower

* Something for us oldies to hang on to (you know what I mean ;) )

Looks perfect to me, as long as the pressure/flow is good!

I can't stand low-flow showers and will take the shower head off to remove the water saving device, if fitted. Sadly most new shower heads are low flow by default.

The best shower for me was in a Crown Towers Melbourne Villa - Was one of the older Villas so the bathroom was around 2011. Massive shower with the best water flow and pressure I've ever had.

Yeah when we stayed at the Westin in London in June, standard room, the shower recess had all those good things but because it was super long it didn’t even have a door to get in the way.

I’m sorta surprised how many hotels persevere with baths (who’s taken a bath since they were 5?) and with shower-curtains that grab you as soon as the water heats up & the steam rises sucking the plastic towards you …

They don’t have to be fancy and be good . IC Sanctuary Cove. Smal but excellent for a fellow with mobility problems.

Yes. We currently have a huge one in Bali. It's great. Instantly hot and has the rain head and shower head combo like this. One control. Up for rain. Down for shower head. No water run off. Water temp perfect and plentiful. A rare thing these days.

Is there a step at the shower door?
For me there should not be a step

Does the drain (noun) actually drain (verb)?.
A lot of hotel showers don't drain properly

How are the shower controls?
Most are not intutive

No.

Yes.

Pretty good. Top one left for rain (symbol) right for wand (symbol). Bottom one for temperature with the button to stop it going too far the wrong way accidentally.

I had not thought of the idea of putting the shower control just outside of the spray

This is indeed a good idea.

Will incorporate for the next Reno

Did that with the reno for our apartment. Ensuite walk-in shower turn on and wait for water to heat up before entering. Same with main bathroom (shower over bath). Turn on before even stepping into tub.

No sure (except for very minor cost) why builders don’t do this as standard 🤷‍♂️

We designed this into our house built 21 years ago and in every reno we have done since. Mr Seat0A positively hates having to reach through the shower flow to turn it on/off.

Where we rent is brand new from 2 years ago. On off location is a simple push down and it's done. Temp is left and right. It's a very simple shower head and it's brilliant. No water flow restrictions which is surprising. I loathe the things.
