All,

Will be flying with QF as a FF, Qantas Club, Bronze to LA in a few weeks, from Syd.

Ok, I am not sure if this the right place to get advice, but here goes;

* Is there a way in which I can half guarantee a seat? I dont go down well with long-haul flights, but a seat either behind the bulkhead or, behind the emergency exit are my preferences. I assume my status 'may' get me something...

* What are peoples experiences with regards to window or aisle seats on these long haul flights?

Thanks for any advice

As a QC member, you can preallocate seating. However, you are restricted in terms of which seats they will release. The first few rows of economy will be blocked, as will bulkheads and exit rows (only Platinum and CL can preallocate these)

Window or aisle really is personal preference. Personally, I prefer aisle seats on long haul flights.

Have a look at www.seatguru.com

cheers for that.

My basic preference is an aisle seat, furthest forward as I can get!

As a Qantas Club member, you may already have a seat assigned to you on the plane.

I suggest you visit www.checkmytrip.com and plug in your trip/booking reference number (eg YZRV2K) and surname and see if it gives a seat number. Also check the map and see where it is.

If you don't like the seat assigned, ring Qantas and request a seat. They may be able to move you, but conversely may tell you to sod off. More likely than not the first response though :D

My personal preference is aisle, middle seats on a 744 plane. Definately the best choice in economy if travelling solo for many reasons. Downside is not being able to look out the window. But often there is nothing to see - especially on night time flights, or those flights where all the pax demand the shades be pulled down.

I never had a problem getting decent forward aisle seats as a bronze a few years back, even when booking flight at late stage. The row behind bulkhead or exit row should not be too hard to obtain.

I don't feel confortable in a pressurised metal tube in the sky either but having a forward aisle seat makes the flight that little more comfortable. Get up and walk around the cabin every so often, except when meals are served, and if you have aisle seat then you don't need to bother anyone. I feel a little cramped in a window seat.

You don't actually have any "status".

Ahead of you are: Qantas Chairmans Lounge, BA Premier, Qantas Platinum, other oneworld Emeralds, Qantas Gold, other oneworld Sapphires, Qantas Club Silver, Qantas Silver, other oneworld Rubys, and finally Qantas Club Bronze. Qantas Club Bronze is so far down the pole that it is not worth deluding yourself that you have "status".

I myself always go for the aisle seat, and prefer a seat in the middle bank of four. An aisle seat on the side will have two people climbing over them to get out, the middle bank will only have one. The centre seats in the middle bank are also the last to go, and will normally be allocated only when they have to, so the chances of scoring an empty seat next to you is reasonable (provided the flight isn't 110% full).

Have a good trip.

Dave

As posted you should already have a seat allocated as a QP member. In fact; as a QP NB, you are eligible for the so-called premium seating in the first few rows of WHY.

Long flight; take an aisle; mainly dark at night and you are better off having the relative "space"/freedom that an aisle gives when compared to other WHY seats..

I seldom fly Qantas international as they do not go to where I want to go. But each time I phone Qantas to request for a specific seat, I do get the requested seat at the check in counter. This includes domestic flights. Qantas does emphasise it is a REQUEST only. Maybe it also helps to check in a bit early which I do.

By the way, all my calls to Qantas, for whatever reason, have always been a pleasant experience.

I thought this was the case. When I was just NB I was always being allocated an aisle seat in the first few rows of economy. Or was that just luck?

Methinks possibly luck.

I do know that CL/WP/SG/PS & QP get auto-allocated in the front area. NB's (non QP) do not.

Examples:

Booked SIN-MEL last year for mrs serfty who is (Partner) QP NB; automatically allocated a sigle seat in 'front' zone.

All my SG/WP international bookings have been auto-allocated in this 'front' zone.

Booked award seat for NB mini serfty last month (on same flight as I have paid fare); no auto-preallocation and had to get special approval of a request to have a seat pre-allocated with me in the 'front' zone.

He still has status all be it lower than other levels, but certainly higher than non FF holder pax, which could possibly make a few bodies on the flight.

Hi All,

New to this (play nice) but stumbled across the forum.

Noticed

I can guess the ones from Qantas Platinum "backwards" as it were (am QC Silver but SO's dad is Qantas Plat, he flies more than most birds), but what is Qantas Chairmans Lounge and BA Premier?

Cheers

Welcome to AFF.

Qantas Chairman's Lounge (CL) and British Airways Premier (BA Prem) are special invitation only levels of the respective Frequent Flyer schemes.

You can't fly enough to get the membership. Normally you are invited by the chairman to join due to the amount of money/influence you can push the airline's way. Eg, CEO's / Political heavyweights / certain Celebs etc etc.

They are regarded as the "Top Tier", and get certain perks that mere mortals don't get such as (for QF), a high chance of free upgrades, special CL only lounges in domestic terminals, and super special white glove treatment.
