A few questions on A380 F from MEL

Yeah the 444k points is the total for both ways - So 60k points more than the classic award but I should earn at least 30k points for the flight and didn't have to pay taxes...

that is insane

Edit: just did a bit of searching and found more 444k FASA A380 seats... I had to pull the plug on the computer to stop myself from booking them =)

I managed to snag some FASA flights for September 2011 last October, 192k miles each way from Mel - Lhr + taxes etc going over via Hkg on 747 and coming back on the a380 via Singapore, it was an offer too good to pass up! Now I have a reason try and build up my miles again. The flight over is full first, I was just amazed it was available

Thanks for the tip! Think its time to build up my points balance again and stop wasting them on J-F upgrades ;p

I wish I had 444k points :(

And that 'pulling the plug' technique would not work on this computer I'm using...because it is a laptop and it has a battery!

Yes I have seen better availability for F out of MEL as east coasters are not willing to go backwards to go forwards when it comes to travel to LHR.
Now that works for the rest of us who are not Sydney centric.
The other points choice is to go on Emirates or SQ (if you have points with them).

rofl...

but yeah... 444k points for 720sc's and 52k points and a very comfortable trip to and from london... wow...

Mr Timtammi and I have booked a one way FASA LHR-MEL in September. MEL-LHR would have been preferred as would have A380 (this is 747 via HKG) but the points were only marginally more than a classic award once you take into account the points you earn for the flight.

Having never travelled F before and having some points to burn we decided to go for it.

What are our lounge and other options ex LHR? As this may be the first and last time we fly F we want to make the most of it! Anything we need to make sure we do?

Any advice re a cheapish Y+ or J one way flight to get to western Europe would be appreciated. We are looking at late August and are happy to fly into any western european port where the deal is good and we dont have to fly Y. Doesnt have to be OW either.

Cheers

Here is a trip report on FlyerTalk of someone who sampled all three LHR T3 lounges that you can also access:

I can't recommend too much without being facetious in order to maximise your experience, but here are some pointers (*clears throat, puts nose up in the air, tongue against cheek firmly :p *):
  • Arrive decently early for your flight. I'm not sure if you can check in at the airport > 3 hours before departure, but if you can then why not if you have nothing else that day.
  • Before you go check-in at the F desks, have a walk and see if the general check-in lines are long. Your grin should be proportional to the size of the queues.
  • Hope you get Fast Track through security - that'd be a bonus.
  • Budget enough time to sample as many tipples as you can across the lounges of your choice, particularly the champagne. (Assuming you do drink alcohol, but drink responsibly).
  • If you are able to, have a meal (light one if need be) in the Galleries F dining area (sometimes BA are a bit tight and only restrict this for customers flying BA F only).
  • Take photos of anything and everything (charge your camera), so you can try and relive the experience. This includes taking a photo of your BPs (before they are ripped up at the gate), hopefully printed on nice BP stock of some sort. Also taking photos of the seat helps a bit, or you relaxed in the seat.
  • Make sure you're nice and relaxed when you step onto the flight.
  • Get to know the crew who will be serving you in F. Don't hesitate to mention that it's your first time in F. A lot happens in the first few minutes upon stepping onto the aircraft, so casually mentioning that you're not "experienced" with the process will help you and them.
  • As soon as you get on board, you should have amenity kits and PJs at your seat. Before pushback, change into your PJs and, if you can hang them up, put your day clothes neatly in the closet.
  • Ask if there are any spare amenity kits for daughters, sons, sisters, brothers etc. - you might get 1 or 2 more.
  • Liberally use the Payot accessories in the F bathrooms (skin moisturising milk and rosehips toner)
  • Consider co-dining, and asking the crew to take a picture of the two of you enjoying a face-to-face F meal.
  • If you drink and enjoy Champagne, have your fill on the flight (responsibly!). The only assured place to get vintage Champagne on QF is flying in the F cabin. I'm not sure if they've run out or changed, but the Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 1999 was featured many times. Sometimes out of London they offer Krug or Charles Heisieck Blanc des Millenaires, although they might have run out of one or both of those.
  • Avail yourself to the in-flight bar, particularly the hand made Cacao chocolates.
  • Have a walk around whilst you request your bed to be made, then have a good sleep.
  • When you arrive at your intermediate stop, proceed as quickly as possible to a lounge and request a shower (reason for being quick is that others will have the same idea). If you are arriving in HKG, I recommend getting a cabana at the CX Wing if you can. Your layover time should be just enough to have a shower or a quick bath.
  • When you arrive home, if your F crew did their jobs well, let them know and also go online to give feedback to QF.

I read someone say that if you keep your expectations low and your mind clear, you will have a better experience overall. I'd say as much as that is difficult to understand, it is very good advice.

I have just joined AFF and have so far really enjoyed some of the discussions I have read. Hubby and l have booked 2x f to Mel-lax-Mel in June on the a380 and we can't wait. We have always flown j but since it's hubby's 60th thought it would be a nice pressie! Just reading thru this thread, I didn't realize the treat we are in for.!! We too had some "spare" points, so managed to book classic @ 384000 points pp return.

Regarding seat allocation, when l rang the qff centre, the staff weren't really familiar with how the seats were arranged. After looking at photos etc, l realized that Side by side seats weren't going to be practical to "see" each other so went with 2a & 3a so that we both had windows, but could just "duck" around to chat or dine.

I just hope that it's all smooth sailing for the A380's now so that we don't end up back on a 747:D

We will let you know how it all goes....roll on 14 weeks!!!

Flew into Melb this morning from Singapore on QF010.... Managed to crash the seat computer which was fixed with a hard reboot after dinner was finished, so a hour or two into the flight.

I got a lovely MS Windows - Macromedia Flash Player 7 error appear..
