A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I believe the availability is on the operating carrier ie. in your example there will be 1 seat available in the award fare class on QF and AA has the ability to book into the QF award class. I don't think there's award availability on codeshares?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

My experience is that it will be the same seat that you see. For availability, look as far out as possible (up to 330 days on the AA site).

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Not sure if this would be better placed in the qantas thread or here.

would like to know whether airlines 'share' rewards seat availability. E.g. Syd- lax, so qantas plane, AA code share

If I can see 1 seat available on QFF classic award, and 1 seat available on AA, but not 2 seats in either program. Does this mean:
1. Only 1 award seat left available on that flight
2. Only 1 award seat left through each program- I.e. > 1 reward seat available

obviously its a lot cheaper to go through AA miles, but availability is the real issue when trying to book 2 people together.

Cheers

I'm not expert on this but just speaking from experience, it is the same award seat you are seeing. If you book both on AA and Qantas at the exact same moment in time... You might get lucky?!

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Hi all,

Wow. My OW world has suddenly expanded and I can see the point addiction getting a tad bit more addictive. I thought I was doing well with collecting points and using ASAs, but this whole cheaper J & F awards and then a world of YUPs has blown everything I knew out the window.

Then I was plotting and planning a trip and found seats on flights. Phoned up today put a booking on hold (the expensive Australian method as I didn't want to push y luck too much) but now I have hit a snag. I have just realised that I should have double checked, but thought that Amex (AU) to SGP was 1:1 but just realised that it is not. I realise that I don't have enough time to transfer enough points that I needed so will probably have to give up the booking, but I thought I would ask for the next time.
Could someone please suggest the best transfer rate from an Australian card to AA?

Thanks so much everyone

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

My step-dad would like to go J CNS - YVR in August, nothing avail from bne/syd (except the 9th) on web site, is my best bet to call them up and try cns-hkg-yvr with CX ? web site says ok cns-hkg but no flight from hkg on. Haven't made any bookings with AA before.

Diners is the best but again via SPG.Only 1 aa mile per 2 DC points though.Always transfer SPG points in lots of 20000 to get the 5000 bonus miles aking a DC point worth 0.625 AA miles.
But have you bought AA miles this year.$US1650 gets 60000 miles + 30000 bonus for the next ~ 48 hours.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Thanks drron. Sounds like same transfer rate as Amex to SPG (I misspelt it earlier sorry).

Thanks so much for the quick answer too :)

CX flights are not shown on AA.com, you will need to call AA to book a CX flight. It's better if you know the availability before calling ( via AsiaMiles, QF or BA websites) and give the Agent the available date and flight number

If this will be a request for an award ticket be aware that travel via Asia will require two all-partner awards or an award based on the one world chart (ie mileage)
The other option is to pay for CNS-HKG and get the award for the long bit

Happy wandering

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Ok, think i found the OW mileage chart on AA...

Does anyone know if with the award below, whether it is similar to the QF in terms of allowing 5 stops and 16 legs etc??

Distance Zone 9
Total Trip Miles = 35,001 - 50,000

Miles Required

Economy Class
160,000

Business Class
220,000

First Class
330,000

If so, 50,000 miles of travel wouldn't be too bad....

I don't think you are limited to 5 stops. It is limited to 16 segments.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Ok, that could be good... USDM was 200,000 for Y and 300,000 miles for J RTW and not sure what the distance and other limitations for that...

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Hi,

I can find the list of AA partner hotels but not the earning rate. Can someone tell me how many miles per dollar you earn? Or just point me to the right url.

Thanks,
Dale.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

May I ask you guys, AA gurus, for some more education here ?

Booking class is important as SC may not be earned if you are in the wrong class.

I was playing around with farecompare today and is stuck with finding the right class code for the following fare.

I am not sure what code letter I should be looking for there.

Any pointer would be appreciated. Apparently, it should be in First class but I could not see AFP codes anywhere.

? Booking code I

But that would be "Business" for SC earn, is it not ?

Many thanks

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

If this flight is going to the Caribbean then that leg is sold as Business class, I is discount business class. You will be seated in domestic first class cabin

Now I know where to look for the booking class (to determine the right SC earn rate): booking codes

BTW, how did you know it is to the Caribbean ?

What letter / fare code did it tell you that ?

It was for a dummy test run LAS-SJC actually.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Typically for instant upgrade fares, segments between mainland USA and the Caribbean on 2 class aircraft have business and economy designated cabins.

The booking class for each segment within the one booking can vary. You do need to check this out. More in this thread:

I class is really only found for flights within the USA where it is a three class flight.
