A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

And you're flying SYD-DXB-ATH, and considering changing to SYD-DXB-TLV?

I'm finding the DXB-TLV leg a stretch (won't work with my passports), and can't see why LHR is relevant.

We would like to connect through LHR so as to do the full journey in QF First, then BA First from LHR to TLV

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

just booked mel-syd-hkg-lhr-tlv in J (flying QF,CX and BA ) and cost 90K points...could have done this trip with Royal Jordan for cheaper but not prepared to fly through Amman

I don't know what the exceptions are, but maybe check the "transiting a third region" rule...
SWP-ME may not allow a connection in EU

South Pacific to Middle East (Israel) is only permitted with a transfer in Asia 2. Via Europe will be two awards.

What the thoughts on this:

Currently booked 2x AA Awards SYD - ATH, with long haul on QF via DXB.

Thinking now of changing from ATH to TLV, which would change the zone from Europe to Middle East.

Said award costs 40k in F from LHR to TLV.

Aus - Europe is 80k
Aus - Mid East is 60k

Aussie AA number said the change will cost 30k points for the flights we want.

Sound correct?

Out of curiosity, how were you getting between DXB and TLV?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Just to upset the apple cart with my carefully arranged flights moving from DRW back to to WLG, the DRW-SYD leg on 01/01/16 (dep 0045hrs) has been cancelled by Qantas - the whole flight has been canned! They did kindly rebook me onto a DRW-SYD flight, dep 1325 hours CST, same day... which conflicts slightly with me being in the air to WLG!

Knew I should have been slightly suspicious when EF's seatmap showed every single seat unoccupied..

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

sorry if this has already been answered, but does anyone know if it is possible to transit Asia and Doha on an Australia-Europe award for 60k in J? i.e. SYD-KUL-DOH-LHR

As long as KUL-DOH-LHR are on QR you should be fine.

I doubt that it would be classified as a single award as it involves 4 "continents".

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

thanks guys. will give them a call later today and let you know if they allow it as one award :)

Yes it is doable / bookable. As mentioned recently, a friend of ours booked SYD-HKG-DOH-SAW flying CX,CX,QR as a 60K J Australia-Europe award.

Interesting as technically this shouldn't be possible under AA rules. USDM would have allowed it, but for AA it misses the requirements of the DOH exception which must use QR into and out of DOH.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I've come up against my first married segment on QF issue.

Qantas has availability SYD-DXB in J but nothing DXB-LHR and only SYD-LHR in Y.

ExpertFlyer, interestingly, is showing two J seats SYD-DXB and DXB-LHR, but only Y SYD-LHR.

I've phoned AA several times and there'll insisting on two awards SYD-DXB and DXB-LHR as there's no through availability.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Just a thought - for QF to be one award under AA rules it must maintain the same flight number - I don't know their numbers but is one segment on the QF heading to SYD and the other segment on QF heading to MEL or vice versa? In that case it would be changing flight numbers.

Dale.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Decided to use up some points beofre the devaluation.

Have booked SYD - SIN on BA F next year. Might as well get to try out the SYD F loungue and experience the world's best business class product

handy tip is to punch your AA PNR into the QF manage booking to get the BA PNR. Got to love the cooperation between airlines

Punched the BA PNR into checkmytrip and can see an e ticket number under the pax name drop down box.

I'm right to believe that everything has been ticketed correctly?

When I booked the flight via aadvantage it said it seemed to indicate it wasn't fully booked and would need to be ticketed.

Prob being paranoid but prefer to sort out a prob now than when the award seats are all gone.

Yep. It was QF1 all the way. No luck.

Your friends got lucky. I just priced out a BNE-SIN-DOH-MUC award and they wouldn't budge from 75k (actually shouldn't be permitted as AFAIK you're only meant to transit Asia 1/2 OR Doha - not both.)
