A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Your friends got lucky. I just priced out a BNE-SIN-DOH-MUC award and they wouldn't budge from 75k (actually shouldn't be permitted as AFAIK you're only meant to transit Asia 1/2 OR Doha - not both.)

yes - this quote from the huffingtonpost sums these situations up quite nicely:

Don't confuse this exception with a customary procedure.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Have you received your E-Ticket number fro AA yet?

If not, it's time to get on the phone and be asking when is my Award going to ticket?

You've probably already tried but if you could find an option like BNE-SIN/HKG/KUL-LHR-MUC you'd be fine for a 60k award.

Thanks -although I was just getting it priced out of curiosity - already have my flights booked. Thanks though :)

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I was booked on Mel - HKG for mid next year as part of a Mel - LHR ticket. I just realised that flight is now a 747, not a 333. I wanted the 333, so will now try and re-route via SIN or see if there is availability via SYD or Brisbane. Damn!

Trying to see if I can make a booking for EY F apartments, at the moment have a F itinerary on hold priced correctly BNE-AUH-KTM, however when I try and go via MEL to get onto the A380 it is adding on the 17,500 for the extra sector, is this the not a published route issue. No, way around it ?

I'm not an expert on understanding routing rules but ExpertFlyer gives this for BNE-KTM:

1. BNE-AUH-DXB-AUH-KTM
2. BNE-AUH-KTM
3. BNE-EY/VA-BNE/MEL/PER/SYD-AUH-DXB-AUH-KTM
4. BNE-EY/VA-BNE/MEL/PER/SYD-AUH-KTM

To me that suggests that you can only route via another Australian city on VA which obviously isn't possible on an AA award.

Thanks, I believe you are correct as its VA its unlikely I can get this without breaking into 2 awards, have tried 2 different agents. Looks like I'm 'slumming' it in the 787 First suites each way, was hoping to get an apartment 1 way. May try and change it down the track if there is availability once ticketed. Thanks.

Have a AAdvantage redemption coming up all on QF DRW-MEL-WLG. Presuming that QF's baggage limits/allowance apply?

Yep, QF baggage limits plus any extra that you may have from status (WP, etc).

On all accounts it should be no different to flying on a QF booked ticket, just use your QFF card for baggage and checking in but make sure that you take a copy of the AA ETicket and Itinerary with just in case of hassles.

I've only ever had a problem once with AA redemptions and that was dealing with BA at LHR but every other flight has been very easy (unlike the AA booking and confirmation process)

What issues did you have? I've never had a problem with BA although their service leaves a lot to be desired!

Ive booked an AA redemption on Qantas in January. The booking shows in my Qantas page - do I need to take the aa paperwork also? (Its in F on the A380 - cant wait to compare with Emirates experience.)

While just a mere SG (at least for a while longer) getting the QF FF# into the AA award reservation for a QF flight opened up a whole bunch of seating options.

Just in case QF is your choice for wandering

Very noob question- i assume if I book a PER-MEL award I can route PER-SYD-MEL? Would PER-BNE-MEL be stretching tjr favour too much?

As long as its a published fare/valid routing you are fine. I believe you should be ok with that one.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Recently I had a flight change on an active redemption with QF - the flight was taken out of service. The original routing was DRW-SYD-MEL-WLG, all in one hit/day. DRW-SYD got cancelled, so QF/AA kindly scrapped the DRW leg and redid the trip as SYD-MEL-WLG. I rang up and rectified this- now doing DRW-SYD-MEL (overnighting) MEL-WLG, still just one redemption, same PNR.

Issue is I now have two ticket numbers under the PNR (as showing on Check My Trip, Finnair - Amadeus GDS systems etc):
1. SYD-MEL-WLG (wrong trip!)
2. DRW-SYD-MEL-WLG (right trip!)

Is this going to cause me issues?

My issue was with the Lounge dragon at the BA First galleries lounge who told me to go to the Business lounge as I was on a non BA issued ticket. (AA stock 001).

Problem being I was travelling in Qantas F and am a OWE!

Recited several OW rules at her and was grudgingly allowed in to take up my favourite spot on the bench seat behind the Tattinger champagne bar.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Hello people who know more than me,

First post here after much much reading and lots of learning, thank you to all who have contributed so much over such a long time. My question today is: we have grabbed 2 business class seats Sydney to Milan in late September 2016 when they became available a few weeks ago. Pretty pleased with that, but now we want to leave Milan 9th or 10th October to return to Sydney but there have been nothing coming up on the AA, BA or Qantas webpages around that time, other than heaps of phantom first class seats on the AA webpage. I have also looked at flights departing from other nearby European cities, but still nothing. Are they likely to become available in the coming months or should I be looking at something quite different?

Thank you for your assistance.
