A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I'm having trouble booking an award flight using the US number, is it better to use the Aus (Fiji) number or just keep HUACA. All of the other bookings I have made have been fairly easy and used the US number. The itin is fairly direct (PER-DOH-TXL-LHR-MAN) but I'm not getting the love from the US.

I've found the AA OZ American ops really good of late think it gets transferred to Fiji. give it a try can't hurt.

I had to call aa today about a booking in May. Says it was ticketed but was showing as unavailable. The person I spoke to was helpful but didnt sound as though they came from Fiji. Anyways it turned out my original flight had been cancelled and we had been rebooked on another flight. But no advice had been received.

Thanks Limewood.

I'll give the Fijians a try and see what I can come up with. On another note, is it just me or are QR's fees and taxes very high.

Mine was USD$60 p.p for a flight from SYD-CDG. Maybe you're travelling through LHR who put an extra tax for premium cabins, or could it be they didn't waive the phone booking fee?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

All in mine where US$205 and they charged for two awards, 1 SWP to EU and a second for Intra EU. I've amended the booking to CX out and EY back, done via the AU tel number, and all in the taxes are $120 plus $75 expedited booking fee.

I have used that number several times, latest this am, and always seem to get put through to Fiji. Success this am booking in J BKK-HKG-ZHR-DUB (CX and BA) for flights in 3 months time. Was going to try AY (only 2 sectors) but if anything went wrong with the 55 min transfer in HEL would have to spend a night in HEL or LHR.

1 Aus to EU and 1 for intra-EU??!! Isn't AA "region"-based? Anywhere Aus to anywhere in EU should cost you 1 award, unless you run afoul of one of their other rules (e.g. transiting through a 3rd region). I reckon you were most likely charged 2 awards, 1 for Aus to Middle East (ME) and 1 for ME to EU.

Also the published fare rule. If the carrier doesn't have a published fare for the route you want you may be up for a second award.

Very true; except that they seem to have taken a pity on us in the Land of Oz (there is no QF->EY published fare, but there have been many cases of reward tickets being issued that way). I am not complaining though :)

If you get an ex-US Airways agent on the line - HUACA.

If you get an AA agent on the line - it will be resolved instantly.

Fiji service is halfway between the two.

I agree with that dfcatch.Had horrendous problems with the agents in Philly when our flight cancelled-they are virtually all ex US.I asked to be put through to a supervisor in DFW-virtually all ex old AA-and the problem was solved and new flights ticketed in 10 minutes.

Hi, I am on CX 714 (is 773 aircraft), on 17 March SIN-HKG booked direct with an AA agent. Just trying to change the seat 12A to a centre aisle in 14 / 15 / 16.

ON CX site I can 'View My Booking', but not change it.

According to Seatguru 12A is bulkhead w' extra legroom but close to loos and galley. Also, it's a bassinet seat.

BTW, I found the AA Fiji agents very useful. Some I wondered where they were as they didn't sound Fijian, but they assured me that's where they were located.

Yes Mel_Traveller, what you said. The agent, an 'international award reservation specialist' according to her introduction, said that is was due to invalid routing, given QR run direct PER-MAN (via DOH) and the other valid routes would be single intermediary stop in LON, or perhaps HEL/MAD. In any event I was happy enough with the CX flights, even though it give me a 9/10hr layover in HKG. Any suggestions on what I could do for that time?

The flights back were booked as 2 awards as I expected they would be.

Booked yesterday morning, ticketed over night, and now to get the CX and EY numbers so I can choose seats.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

It's OK, I phoned up CX and the seatguru map was wrong so as I'm in a single window seat and am not too close to the utilities, I'm sticking w- 12A.

CX business class seats start at row 11 (I think this is standardised across their fleet?). I find it hard to believe 12A would be bulkhead.

Regardless, just call CX and ask for change of seat if you want a specific seat.

Some of the regional versions have no row 11 at the windows, only in the centre block, so 12 A/C, H/K can sometimes be at a bulkhead.

Thanks H. It's OK, I phoned up CX and the seatguru map was wrong so as I'm in a single window seat and am not too close to the utilities, I'm sticking w- 12A. CX did confirm that row 11 is first in J. Hopefully it will stick.

What number did you call for CX? I have a similar problem, with an equipment change, from a 777W with allocated seats 15d & g being a centre pair, to a 777z (new regional) where the centre pair becomes 3 across with a seat between us. It also has angle flat seats (not happy).

Seatguru is not particularly accurate anymore for non-USA airlines. Always better to go directly to the MMB function of the particular airline to choose seats.

Your seat allocation with CX should stick, but you can go on line to MMB and confirm.

12A/C (and the other side) can be bulkheads. The only thing to watch out there is that one of them is a bassinet so you may be asked to move.
