A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

They have quoted 110K miles in J and AUD 220. Do you think it would go through to ticketing? I'd still like an extra day in AUH anyway. So, it's a combo of QF, QF, CX, EY, EY, and QF. No mention of VA at all during the conversation with the Fiji call centre.

If they have quoted it, you might be ok. Strange thought because sergeyvzn is correct in the whole VA would be included in the published fare.

The mileage is fine, you are being charged for 3 awards - 35K from Australia to Asia2, 30k for Asia2 to ME and 45K for ME to Australia, the total of 110K

You can combine Etihad with OneWorld airlines but I honestly don't understand how they could allow the return leg with EY/QF combined without charging you two awards for this, it violates the published fare rule! I have no access to the paid EF site but the Etihad site only shows combinations of EY/VA to Canberra. If it gets ticketed - you're in luck

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Thanks, fingers crossed for ticketing. I hope to still change one of the flights.

PS, it is 110K miles. Would it be the same after the miles devaluation?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I did CBR-SYD-AUH QF/EY with no problem as a single award in September, and no problem having my luggage checked through from CBR.

great to know! thanks for that - now we know that the published fare requirement can be flexible

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I'm looking at an EY booking FCO-AUH-PER in J which will be 75k. There will be a two day stop in AUH but it will all be on one ticket.

Now, if I was to change this post-22 March for another routing FCO-X-PER perhaps with CX or CX and AY, I'm wondering if I would be subject to the old (as they are now) prices. The origin and destination are unchanged so on that basis it should be fine. In fact, if I was to go with a oneworld option and didn't have a stopover I should in theory get 15k back (75k for EY; 60k for oneworld via Asia 2 or Middle East).

How does this sound? Is my thinking correct?

I couldn't finalise a booking unless the credit card used was in the account owners name. Curiously I was able to buy the points on my credit card in that same account.

This is exactly my situation. I bought them, but can't 'spend' those same points.

AA miles purchase is handled by points.com, not AA.

Changing an EY award to a oneworld award triggers an award redeposit fee and issuance of a new award. Also, your EY Booking is two awards: FCO-AUH (30k) and AUH-PER (45k). Technically, you'd have to release the tickets to have your miles redeposited and make a new booking. Of course, you'll get the miles back, but you'd have to pay the redeposit fee. The fees should be waived since you're AA EXP.

Just check with the call centre to be absolutely sure!

Any ideas why when I select a QF flight (MEL-DRW J) on AA.com when I goto the next screen it says not available any more? Since when does AA show phantom QF availability?

I'm not having any trouble. It is possible that the flight might be full, and the database for the flight selection page might be lagging. Maybe provide a sample date?

There is actually a lot of phantom QF availability on AA at the moment. eg Just about any day in August next year AA has 1st class availability SYD-LHR but it can't be booked.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

After the news of devaluation got out and people in the USA in panic were booking everything bookable, something happened to the QF availability - as asg29e says plenty of phantom QF availability.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

It happened before the devaluation... I encountered the problem at the start of the current promotion.

Could well be, I only noticed when, after the devaluation was announced, I started searching myself for QF F availability to Europe for late next year. It's very annoying - lots of F and J availability that is all phantom

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Yep, been there for a while. Need to use awardnexus or even qantas website to properly check for qantas availability.
