A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Managed to hold a J award with QF DRW-SYD-DFW-JFK (AA), and have found (on AwardNexus) a return of CX JFK-HKG-SIN too. Problem is, I'm potentially needing to be in AKL at the same time and won't find out until 2 - 3 weeks beforehand on which trip I'll need to make.

Query:
If I hold the QF segment and ring up for the CX segment can it be put on the same PNR/ticket (without a ticketing fee for calling them)? As if I have to go to AKL after all, I'd want the taxes/fees and miles back - ideally only paying the one redeposit fee.

Cheers all :)

No AA Awards are one way. That will be two separate tickets.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Thanks PF. I have the awards on hold - now to see if work will give me the leave (and if I have to be in AKL or not!). Kicker is the return awards flight will get me as far as SIN from EWR on CX but have to get myself SIN to DRW (which may be the price I have to forfeit again).

May have to start another thread elsewhere on here to get some itinerary suggestions perhaps.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Has anybody been able to book J seats on the new QF 73/4 flights to SFO ?
I can't seem to find anything available on AA.com and just wondering are they all snapped up or has it not loaded yet ?

I have read somewhere (either on FlyerTalk or the blogs) that AA can book them but you need to phone and speak with an agent. So I'd be looking for availability on the QF website and then phoning AA to book.

Reports are not loaded on AA yet its thought in next couple weeks.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

IIRC from OMAAT, they were loaded at QF's end and bookable either online with QF or via AA via phone, but that quite a few have been snapped up now.

call and call now...

booked SFO-SYD last week , but as noted above, a lot of availability already gone.

use EF or QFF for availability.

add a domestic US leg/s for free (though not sure about S/O's).

Further to, there was even availability over Christmas and New Years Eve, but that went the quickest I think.

Wondering if can ask a small favour - I'm blind so can't read the chart. How much is an intra Asia award from DPS to HKG in both Y and J?

Thanks.

To be honest, I can't see why this could not be done.

You can have an AA return / round trip award as a single ticket. The total miles cost is the sum of that for each individual journey within the routing.

Also, I have held a booking and then added additional segments as they became available and changed others to a different destination before finalising ticketing. The taxes changed (although the miles didn't (as it was the same destination region)).

I must say though, this was not for a return or round trip.

Will the call centre staff at AA try to charge you a telephone booking fee because they think that QF flights are bookable online (and they generally are) ?

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Lucky enough to grab my first AAward SYD-xMEL-LAX in U/P respectively. After beginning to credit to AA a while back it's nice to finally reap the benefits of the superior burn rates.

Slightly concerning is the 40min connection in MEL. IIRC DOM-INT MCT @ MEL is 60 mins - I thought generally airlines wouldn't offer connections which didn't meet MCT?

Yes I called the Australian number and got thru straight away (was quoted 40 mins on hold for USA number). She told me if I could see it online then why didn't I book it that way as was $80 fee but after 15 mins on hold (of her trying to bring it up on aa.com) she relented and waived it.

My fail in the end though- got the name wrong and have to call to get it changed.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

If booked with USDM is it now possible to change a sector (not departing point or destination) to AA EK flight?

EK is not part of oneworld nor is it an AA partner ?
