Hah I dream to fly long haul F once, let alone compare any of them!

BA in that list :( Come off it! It's the same seat that CX and AA (77W) as well as others use as a business class seat, the Weber Cirrus. BA have just tarted it up with some better upholstery and a silly looking lamp.

I am hearing you vec. One can only dream of winning lotto to enable the fulfillment of the F dream!!

Thanks for posting that.

Couple I hadn't seen before that impressed - TAM's '4 only' would make for a very private cabin (if not each seat it appears) and the 'lounge-room feel' appeals to me. Makes me want to try it.

Lufthansa - bed+chair - fantastic idea. Anyone tried it? Only 8 in the cabin. Am travelling LH long haul J a couple of times this year. Wonder of I should try to upgrade one leg? :)

But I can't understand why EK's product (which I have used) couldn't make it to the top 10. Maybe the 'Design' people couldn't stand all the bling :D The reviews do stray beyond just the design / seat/bed product, so EKs showers must give them a boost. But bettered by American Airlines and Garuda? Don't think so.

I must say the couch on TAM looks like a pretty sweet place to hang out for 10 or so hours with a few mates.

It looks like the top-10 is purely from a design perspective, and it's a little odd because some of the seats are not unique to the airline (or at least not materially different).

The Garuda seat for example is pretty standard.

The SQ seat featured is the brand new design. Not reflective of the bulk of their fleet. SQ's current F offering (non-suite) is still too short for me and requires sleeping on the diagonal.

And there is no mention of the Asiana suite. That has a nice 35 inch LCD tv.

In terms of the total package the results would be quite different than just looking at the seat element.

I had that on Qantas from London to Dubai. I was in 3A and the seat behind was free so the flight attendant said that she would set up the suite behind as the bed for me and then I could just move into the other seat when I wanted to sleep. From Dubai to Melbourne first was full so didn't have that luxury.

Yes you should especially if departing FRA as you will get use of their First Class Terminal. Its out of this world (if you like your drink and cigars) and make sure you book (which I didn't know you could until recently) a Porsche 911 for four hours and go racing on the autobahns ;)

Europe and back First Class with Etihad last year with my wife. I initially redeemed 500k FF points for Business Class seats, and upgraded for cash (very reasonable in my view) at check in.

If there's a better experience, good luck to those who have it. Everything was sublime. The chauffeur pick ups, the food and wine ($200 Bollinger and Premier Cru Burgundy) and the best service I've ever experienced. The only cabin that looked comparable was Singapore.

My mind has been enriched by this post.

Thank you.

I read somewhere that LH F is not available for *A redemption and when it is available, it is only 15 days out.

So, what has been your choice method to snag an LH F seat ?

BTW, with the chair being empty while you have a lie down, could someone from deep Y come and sit there for a while [no food / drink / lav access, only IFE]* (MEL_traveller: comments are coming or not !!!) :D

* totally tongue in cheek from someone who knows better

There are quite a few fantastic TR's over on FT detailing with exquisite photos the LH first experience - simply first class!

How was the soft product ?

United Nations like EK ?

Or, more homogeneously home grown ?

This is more scary "... Bookings are not refundable in case of cancellation..."

I don't think I would tempt fate there.

Very United Nations. There wasn't an Aussie in the whole cabin, but a mixture of Middle Eastern, English and other European.

And I redeemed Velocity points, so I doubt I would have forfeited them if I cancelled.

the separate seat/bed combination is only available on the 747-400. Other aircraft have different seats that convert to beds. As it is upper deck, you'd have a pretty hard time getting there if you weren't ticketed in first. so no problem :)

as for getting seats... either LM (within 14 days) or you can always buy one :) (LH offers a discounted F ticket for advance purchase , as little as AUD6500 ex BKK for example).

It is a very very very nice terminal indeed. I say terminal because not only does the name says it is, but it really is a terminal. Check in, security, lounge, bar, cigar lounge, shower, rest areas and immigration all in one .... and just for F passengers. Then there's the Porsche Panamera or Mercedes S Class saloons that drive you from the terminal, along the tarmac and straight to your awaiting plane.
