Hi All,
Glad to join the group. This place has been a wealth of information that helped me learn so much more about the perks of being a ff. it's been about 18 months now since I joined my first FF program (Marco Polo) and since then I've been reading up and my eyes have opened. I rue the fact that I has earlier never bothered with FF programs - so much miles wasted :(
oh well! It's never too late and this site has helped me learn a lot. Would love to be able to contribute in any way possible. :)
Just a quick question for our experienced Hong Kong road warriors. I travel to Hong Kong from Perth almost every month for about 3-4 days a trip. Just turned in to a MPC Gold.
I usually stay at The Ramada Hong Kong. Now the plus points of this Hotel has been the ease of getting there - the A10 bus virtually drops you to its gate, quite reasonable rate most of the time (around 120-150 AUD). And it's on the tram line so getting to Central and Cause Way bay is quite easy (these places are where I've got most of work taking place). On paper this place ticks all the boxes, however, I've somehow never enjoyed staying at this property. Mostly because of the service there. Somehow the staff has never been warm nor there seems to be any recognition for repeatedly staying there. Early check in or late check outs are quite patchy.
So my question is - would you'll have any recommendation for places to stay in around the $120 to $150 AUD Mark, easy to get to (close to the MTR being a big plus), good service and if possible being part of Rewards Group I.e. IHG, SPG etc that could help me maximise miles etc. Hong Kong Island would be preferred but Kowloon is cool too.
Hoefully I haven't overloaded in my first post :D
looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
cheers,

Welcome aboard Smoothflyer, haven't been to HKG for awhile so can't help with your question but I'm sure one of our more knowledgeable members will be along soon.

Welcome aboard!

Have yet to visit HKG so I'll leave your question for others with knowledge in the area.

Welcome to AFF Smoothflyer!

It may pay to check out the Destination Guide sub-forum and post a new thread with your specific question if you can't find an answer.

Welcome to AFF Smoothflyer, I am also not able to answer your question.

Ramada (presumed the one in Western District) is good for the reasons you mentioned. What they provide is good value for money. I have not stayed there for a couple of years now (used to) but believed that some of the staff are a bit shy with English. Many of these hotels are targeting mainland chinese visitors - so they care about the Mandarin than English standard of their staff more. Maybe learn a few words of Cantonese to start the conversation - may lighten them up. If you are otherwise happy with it you should probably stick with it. There is a Marriott opposite to Ramada (now changed name I think) which is usually more expensive; there is Jen and Island Pacific nearby with similar feel as Ramanda.

There are numerous other options in HK nowadays esp with the government driving to increase hotel rooms. There is always somewhere on sale if you can afford the time searching. However that means staying in a different place and learning different transport systems (but can be exciting). If you want to be closer to shopping, then there are now many business buildings converted to hotels (usually smaller rooms than Ramada) in Wanchai/Causeway Bay.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

welcome, your price range is going to be a challenge in that area given it's popularity - you may want to have a look at IHG properties on the kowloon side. another chain worth looking at would be harbour grand who will credit to most FFPs and have a lot of properties and are often on sale to compete with the majors.

don't be afraid to ask to speak with a reservations manager if you plan on booking regular stays, ask what they can offer in terms of check in/check out or other frills. HK is the land of the deal!
