I have until the end of this month to gain the required 90 Qantas status points, to upgrade to the next tier, or else I loose the ones I've earnt.

Can anyone suggest a (cost effective) flight I can take this week that carries the awards points I need?

Any suggestons would be appreciated.

Depends where you are based. NTL-SYD(Y)-CBR(J)-SYD(J)-NTL(Y) gets you 100 status credits for well under $1,000.

Thanks for the replies so soon...

Should've mentioned, It'll need to be a RTN fare ex SYD. Been reading up on the topic of first hand experiences with the benifits/privileges between the various tiers throughout the forum, so I guess its a case of weighing up the cost of this intended flight with the use I'll get from moving up to 'Silver' level. Given I don't travel anywhere near as much as some of you guys, this could all prove quite a pointless exercise.

Thanks for taking the time to reply anyway. Comments/thoughts are always welcome

I did SYD-CBR-MEL-ADL in J for the through fare (about $650).

Just out of interest, was that direct through a travel agent or a red e-deal / internet deal ?

Booked it over the phone with QF and ticketted it at the local HWT.

Basically the benefits that silver brings are;
> 25% bonus points on flights that are longer 800 miles
> Use of Qantas Club queue
> Priority luggage??? (I'm not sure about this one)
> One free admission to Qantas Club.

If you are just going to spend some money to go somewhere to get those 90 points - and for no other reason - don't bother. You'd be better off spending the money to become a Qantas Club member which gives all of the above except for the 25% bonus points.

Thanks dajop (and everyone else),

Well being a Qantas Club member already, my master plan is now looking a lot less appealing. Sure the 25% bonus on each flight (for the next 12 months) would be nice, but I also had this 'illusion' the silver tier might offer some of those much sort after check-in bonuses. Got a friend with a platinum card who is upgraded 30-40% of the time on local sectors. She's also very attractive :D

It *might* be worth it spending to to get to SG. Definitely worth it to spend to pay to WP. But PS? Depends on your travel patterns.

If all of your flights are SYD-MEL or similiar, then I wouldn't bother, since you will get them minimum points anyway. WP's rarely get status bonuses on flights such as this, SG's rarely do, and PS? Nah, don't bother.

It's the card - not the looks. I get upgraded all the time, and I'm as ugly as a hat full of coughholes.

Gee, I want to look like her  ...I am hardly ever upgraded these days without using ODU's :( ...maybe I'm not as ugly as Shillard though  ...so my looks aren't helping me (stay out of it, thadocta!!

As Dave said, if you are expecting another bumper year of flights, then 25% bonus points might be worthwhile...but if you are doing it for status then join the tens of thousands of Silvers out there.

Shillard, perhaps dishwashhands should be flying NTL/SYD in Y a couple of times this week...was only about $118 plus taxes (for 20 SC's) per flight as I remember from another thread in FT.

You're only as old as the woman you feel.

Sounds about right Lindsay, but I make all of my NTL-SYD-NTL runs in full Y these days - it's an extra $60 or so, but an extra 10 SC each way....

shillard, then I'm 31 :D Maybe I should join you and Dave on an SC run with thadocta, so we can get him to WP status.

dishwashhands, did you take the flights??

(edited to correct bolding)

Thanks again for all the responses. Yes I did end up going through with it.

Ended up doing a SYD/HBA rtn over the weekend just gone, as I have folks down there, which was worth 80 SC. Then hopped a cheap SYD/NTL rtn mid week, which was worth 20 SC.

Now, whether or not I'll see the full benefit from the $600+ I've dropped, just to get this new status level is to be seen. At least I've got a full 12 months to give it a decent shot ;-)
