Hi, folks! My daughter's 85 SC short of reaching platinum for the first time ever. One week and five days to go before her year's up. Worth chasing? She can probably do ADL-SYD return for 80 SC in business but is there some leeway asking for leniency/points for SC to make up for the shortfall? Thanks, guys!

If she is going to do a fair amount of flying in the coming year ( especially international) then yes. Although if her flying will be in J or F, then less so.

only 1200 SCs needed to retain.

unlikely to be given any leeway if short this time.

Thanks for that! She's 13 years old and does a bit of flying by herself ADL-SYD in Y 3-4x a year but flies with me on J internationally 2-3x a year. We came back on Tuesday from the US and with the new QF-AA agreement she's acquired a few more SC's than anticipated, and she's closer to Plat now than she's ever been. Probably won't be flying as much next year so the only potential benefit of chasing WP at this stage is to hold it for 12 months then a soft landing to Gold.

QF WP is great if you might value:

Premium domestic lounges (the J lounges in AU are great)

First lounge access when flying internationally (these lounges are miles ahead of J lounges and means if you have a nice meal on ground often don’t need to eat onboard)

FF award seat access and upgrade priority

Definitely worth it.
Not even worth the time wasted on a phone call asking for leeway.
Time to get creative on the status runs!

I have the flights you need - ADL-CBR return for about the same price as ADL-SYD return but earning 160 SCs.
That fare is with a business rewards member discount of $88 but if you don't have a business rewards account you can either pay $88 extra or ask someone if you can be added to their account - would earn extra points and also help them qualify for greater discounts, at no cost to you.
Or you can just pay the $88 extra!

You could also do ADL-AKL return for about the same price but it would involve an overnight in AKL so probably not suitable for a 13 yo girl on her own.

At 13 I am not sure if your daughter is able to enter the domestic lounges as a minor. The better seating and additional points that comes with WP may be worth the effort.

Maybe do SYD-AKL in J (that gives you 80SC) and return in whichever class you prefer. This could be cheaper than doing return ADL-SYD in J. I do this route for my status run as well

That could be difficult if they are starting in ADL as suggested by the flights chosen in the OP!

Thanks for the top suggestions! For intl routings and indirect domestic routes I’ll definitely need to accompany her and I’m not terribly keen on flying or status runs myself (gasp!) particularly having just done 7 flights in 2.5 weeks including a return MEL-SFO. Any status runs with my daughter though will nudge me closer to P1 so will consider.

She’s entered the ADL QP once by herself but it was quite busy at the desk reportedly and they barely glanced at her and her BP before waving her in. Other times she’s been with someone accompanying in ADL and MEL lounges.

If only direct flights will do then you could do ADL-PER return in J for 120 SCs but then the fare jumps up to $2,766 or $2,362 with discount!
Also it seems to be impossible to do this on the same day with QF :(

There has been examples on here where members under the age of 18 having their access revoked due to liquor licensing requirements

Try Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns and return in Y flex. That will get you 120 and should be able to do in a day return and be cheaper than one way J somewhere.
The OP doesn't want to send his daughter alone on multi-sector flights, only on a simple aller-retour.
Sorry for the French but we don't really have a corresponding phrase in English - "return flights" is ambiguous.
It can mean the whole trip or it can mean only the return sectors (see what I did there).
