8 hours at SYD (transit)

Hi All

In a couple of weeks I'm landing at Sydney airport at 08:45 (from Wellington) and my connecting flight on to London (via Dubai) does not depart until 17:00!

I'm flying QF Premium Economy and only have bronze membership with British Airways, so I don't think I'm going to have a snowballs chance of using any of the airline lounges which would have been a more pleasant and relaxing way to spend eight hours. Therefore I was just wondering if there are any loungers or comfy chairs with footstools where I'll be able to stretch out and read a book to try and pass the time?

when is your flight? I would check gumtree or this forum for a Qantas Lounge pass, would make the 8h a LOT more comfortable.

Ah ha... I didn’t realise I could do that. Thank you for the suggestion.

My travel date is Monday 24 February so I will see if I can locate someone with said pass. (I will be landing at Heathrow at 6am the following morning going straight into work so anything to make the journey a little less painful will be much welcomed!)

Grab an Admirals club 30 day pass, it will give you access at AKL and SYD assuming your flying QF.

I appreciate its not your question, but why wouldn't you stow your carry-on at Luggage storage at the airport and catch the train into town and either have a look around or find a comfy café and pass the time there?

Would mean entering Oz of course, but unless your visa requirements are awkward, shouldn't be a problem?

Would it be worth it Roo, take a good 30-45 mins clearing customs and Immigration (depending on time of day), another 30 mins to get to circular quay on the train, 30 mins back and 90-120 mins to recheck back in. ( all approximates ) That's approx 3 and half hours to just get to and from the city.
for me personally, as someone else suggested, get on ebay, buy a QP pass, spend some time wandering the airside shops, cafes, bars then hunker down in the QP and have a couple. It will also make the long flight seem just that little bit quicker LOL

There would be no need to recheck back in if the OP has both boarding passes from AKL/OLCI. I doubt customs would take that long to with just hand luggage. Maybe an hour in travel/formality time.

If they are on a NZ passport that can use the SmartGate then to clear immigration is super fast. From air bridge connecting to clearing immigration, collecting checked bags (admittedly priority tagged), clearing customs and into taxi last weekend took me a whole 19 minutes.

Reading the OP, would he be here as a transit pax and as such can a transit pax leave the terminal

They sure can so long as they have a right to enter Australia, there is no extra taxes etc to be paid.
