From the Inflight Mag description and workflyers comments the new Y seats are different to the A380 - 9" screen vs 10.6" in the A380.
seemingly were ordered for the 787 which should have been in service now.

workflyer on FT
The seats are the same as planned for the 787 in economy with 9" seatback touch screens. The Business seat is much larger than the millenium seat with a seat width of 22" and has a very wide and high seatback and 10.6" in arm entertainment screen. It also features a 4 way adjustable headrest, ergonomic cushions, extedable leg and footrest and personal side stowage.

Obviously both cabins have PC Power (offered as 2 between every 3 passengers) and USB ports.

so who is flying TT on Wed 9/9?

Hmmm... This 737-800 on the 19th may not necessarily be one of the new ones.

For only 3 days, Wed 9, Thu 10 and Fri 11, a 73H is scheduled to operate MEL-(QF132)-AKL-(QF114)-SYD-(QF113)-AKL-(QF134).

No other sign of a 73H between AKL and MEL/SYD/BNE until 19th where one is scheduled to be dedicated to the 4 daily AKL/BNE segments for for days.

Time will tell.

Perhaps they could get some of these flying SYD-PER and MEL-PER?

One of the reasons I'm now flying DJ more is because of their live-to-air. I know it costs $9.90, but at least it gives me something to do.

Doing a SYD-PER evening flight in a 767 last month, there was an audible groan throughout the cabin when they announced Star Trek was showing.

I doubt that these new 738's will be doing any MEL/SYD-PER runs. They will be registered with Jetconnect NZ(QFlyer - Qantas) so I am guessing they will be staying on the MEL/SYD-AKL runs.

For me, I find a widebody beats PTV's on a B737 any day!;)

I'm sure they're not identical - but it would be surprising for Qantas to engage Newson to roll out an entirely new series of seat designs right now for something that is hardly their flagship product. Would have expected to see similarities in design with their current products, in this case the A380 PE/Y designs (if not with exactly the same specs). More than happy to see something new, but just not expecting it.

Spoke to an FA who suggested that the newly refitted aircraft are not likely to start operating until around 19/9, and then initially on the BNE-AKL route.

Will be interesting to see what turns up. :)

Time will tell.
The 73H currently scheduled to operate TT tomorrow through Friday is a VX. This particular aircraft went into service in 2003.

So it is not the new one. It appears JNC is to have a sabbatical.

Maybe those on the AKL/BNE route from the 19th will get the first operational experience.

More from workflyer

The airacraft will be delivered to Jetconnect on the 18th September. The Qantas 737-800s operating the flights are to give the 733's a break as they are close to running out of cycles and are due for overhaul which is obvisously expensive and unnecessary only weeks before their retirement. The first JC 800s will operate with crew patterns of "day trips" as not all pilots have completed their training and as such a crew change at port could end up turning into a logistical nightmare - therefore AKL-BNE-AKL are the first planned operating sectors.

Any indication if the 738 has the new Boeing 737 interior(differnt overhead bins,LED lighting etc)?

The Jetconnect 737-800s that have not long been delivered do not feature the new Boeing 737 Sky interior, however FEB10 deliveres (onwards) should be delivered with the new interior.

I've had a peek at the new Jetconnect/QF 737-800 product and it looks mediocre. The same issue arises - the introduction of yet another product offering (Silverwing II J/Weber Y seating). The interior doesn't scream excitement, with subdued grey/purple fabric.

The Silverwing J seat is somewhat similar to the Millennium J seat, although wider and much more comfortable looking. For Economy, the seating looks like your standard offering, although much nicer than the standard Y QF 73H seating. Retractable PTVs are visible in row 4 (akin to the setup on the 747-400 exit rows etc)

If only the aircraft featured the rich and vibrant green and maroon from the A380 :)

I guess with the first AKL/BNE Jetconnect 73H flight later this week, pictures will become available (I'll be sure to include a picture on QFlyer as soon as possible).

Cheers

ZK-ZQB is named Sir William Hudson.
Not so much a pilot - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Hudson_(engineer) - but responsible for an extremely important project in Australia

Report here suggest ZQA entered service Thu 17/9:

ZK-ZQA arrived into AKL from MEL as QF6021 on 16/09/09 and entered service on QF116 to BNE this morning (assuming 17/9), landing here a few minutes ago.

Just wondering, with this new 737-800, from what I see, the seatings and AVODs would just match what is already on current AirNZ A320 TT planes, right? The last two times in AirNZ A320 SYD-AKL TT (both J and Y) earlier this year I had a great time with their service, seat and their AVOD. I am surprised that QF still doesn't have AVOD cross tasman. Or was I lucky with NZ?

I haven't flown NZ for a while, however I do remember them saying the entire A320 fleet would be fitted with PTV by October 2008. Don't know if that happened or not though.

Yep, it has happened.

All AirNZ A320's have Personal IFE. It's even "gate to gate" so you can start watching videos/map as soon as you sit down right through to disembarking. (Can't play games unless the seatbelt sign is off).

Couple of answers to a couple of Questions:

The new aircraft will have a configuration of 12
Business and 156 Economy.

And customers will also enjoy state-of-the-art and
on demand inflight entertainment from Panasonic
in both Business and Economy cabins.

Business Specs:

coughtail table
Individual PC power
and USB port
Personal side stowage
Adjustable headrest Ergonomic cushions
Extendable legrest with
fold-out footrest
10.6” in-arm IFE touch screen
Qantas exclusive wide seatback design
22” width between arms
6” recline
37” seat pitch

Economy:

30” seat pitch
17.2” seat width
9” seat back IFE touch screen
Shared PC power (2 between 3)
Individual USB port
4 way adjustable headrest
Ergonomic cushions

I have alot of information about them if there are any other Q's.

Does information extend to photos of the cabin? Would be great to see what they look like :)

Sadly no. I have seen the 737-800 interior in a power point presentation, but nothing that I can release externally.

I will look around.

Hi Empdizz,

OT... however...if qf value TT travel so much as to introduce these new planes, when are transcon pax going to get the same level of service.

I fly J between SYD and PER and we still get stuck with main screen movies only (unless you get the A333's which appear to be ending).

The cost is higher, the flight is longer and the service is less, it doesn't make sense.

end rant/

What is the USB port for ?

Thanks

I would imagine charging Ipods, phones or anything else that needs a little power draw?

What i would like to know is what sort of power point is available in whY? Empower?
