Hi guys,
I've been lurking for a while without posting - just a leisure traveller.

I found these fares online and thought maybe they haven't been picked up yet!

Royal Brunei (bruneiair.com) are offering flights out of Melbourne to pretty much any SE Asian destination for less than $600.

For the dates I was searching (mid next month) I could find a return flight Melbourne to Kota Kinabalu for $495 and flights MEL to SIN for just $550.

The fares are somewhat decieving until you get to the payment page - as they don't show the $80 fuel surchage until you go to pay (the fares above include the fuel surcharge).

Don't know much about Royal Brunei - but for that price - who cares!

I think for long haul flights with them, the fact they are a dry airline (no alcohol), does make some people shudder... :)

But yes for short haul, not bad prices perhaps, and can always have a tipple at the airport before departure...

Being a 'dry' airline doesn't phase me honestly. I feel like cough if i have too many drinks on board.

For curiosity sake I plugged in some dates MEL-SGN in May and it came up with $99 AUD fares each way. Next window $600 return. That fare wasn't available ex-Melbourne. I got a wee bit excited!

Nonetheless.. still quite cheap! I'd be choosing them over Jetstar any day.

I understood you can drink your own duty free & they will supply mixers

<snip> and can always have a tipple at the airport before departure...

According to an 18 month old FT thread BWN is dry, but the airport website uses the word "bar" and thus implies otherwise:

Bar Lounges: enjoying your drink and finger food at the Sky Lounges located at 1st floor of departure hall.

As a matter of curiosity, does anyone happen to know whether "drink" includes alcoholic beverages?

Definitely dry.

A nice hot shower is about all you can really look forward to. The airport is dead.

Thanks, extracta! A point to bear in mind for anyone whose interest in avoiding long, dry lay/stopovers is more than academic. ;)
