The return of ground status credits is I guess a good news in this current situation. With all the border closure and almost no international flight, Qantas will have to offer another extension or status support later this year, so it make sense to give away some ground SC.

"Bonus Status Credits will not contribute towards any Platinum or Platinum One Bonus Rewards, Loyalty Bonuses, Lifetime status and any Qantas Status Accelerator".

It looks like these Bonus Status Credits don't count towards Lifetime Status. As I'm in Europe, I wouldn't be able to earn these, but as they don't count towards Lifetime Status they would be of no interest to me anyway. I'm sure some of the previous Bonus Status Credit promotions I've seen didn't exclude them from counting towards Lifetime Status.

This is a pretty common addition to the T&C but my lifetime tally still increases

I don't own a car, so I never go to BP, but this offer is certainly of interest. Do BP sell gift cards these days?

I assume that if I put $40 worth of fuel in my car, then spent $10 in-store in the same transaction, that would count.

My car’s tank is too small to put in $50 at a time. The last time I tried, I waited until the fuel warning light was on, put in 98 fuel and still only made it to $49 before the tank was overflowing (so missed out on the bonus points for buying $50 worth of fuel).

Going off experience in previous promotions yes that would count. In the recent 2x/3x/5x promo with a min $30 transaction, I did $11 worth of fuel and a $19 sodastream bottle swap for the 2x level, and it registered correctly.

Some other reasonable value in-store purchases are 9kg gas bottle swaps and bags of ice - not that many Australians will be throwing parties at the moment.

Some BP locations in Sydney do Opal top-ups. These have counted in the past.

Thanks for the heads up, I had thought about this but was unsure about the eligibility exclusion for "tolls, travel cards and public transport tickets or cards"

Did you top-up with a fuel purchase or separately?

Separately. No idea if it will work this time though.

Will this work for to qualify QF Gold under the 100SC status match offer? That would help a lot in reaching the requirement.

Does anyone know 50 SC offer is concurrent with the 5x points offer ?

Can't seem to find this in the T&Cs

An extra 50 SCs is not going to help me requalify for QF Plat....apart from the 600 gifted SCs, I will not earn more SCs even to think about Plat requalification. My only flight with Qf in the last 24 months has been an award rtn Syd-Nlk J flight. I normally earn QF plat by travelling to Europe in J. With the Syd F lounge closed as the NZ bubble with Sydney is paused, and no imminent OS flights, I'm not going to bother about requalifying for Plat for now....and BP has the highest price for fuel in my area!

I have no need for SC at the moment. WP till Dec and taken my one flight for WP for another year. If these counted towards lifetime status I'd give it a crack, but since they don't there is no point.

It could be that Qantas offers another easy extension with rollover next year. I am betting on that, and those 50SC could help requal in 2 years.

I might give this a go as the end date is in my new status year (and will need every SC I can get to maintain WP). I’m not too fazed about not counting towards LTWP….😉

The only challenge is that I’m not driving much at the moment! I’m lucky to top up once a qtr…. If the borders reopen, I’m hoping to do some road trips that will help. For those thinking the same - forget SA (they don’t participate - I discovered….).

The T&Cs say:

Bonus Status Credits will not contribute towards any Platinum or Platinum One Bonus Rewards, Loyalty Bonuses, Lifetime status and any Qantas Status Accelerator.

That would suggest that they would not. However, it's unclear whether Qantas distinguishes between the "Status Accelerator" and the recent status match promo. The Status Accelerator is a different offer, but the word "any" makes it a bit ambiguous.

If you decide to give it a go, please let us know whether it works.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I just picture an AFFer putting petrol everywhere... when the attendant asks what's going on, the response is "I must spend $50 on petrol" 🤣

Apparrently SC land 6-8 weeks after end of promotion period. My status resets end September, so will do my last fill up on the 30th, and hope they don't post same day in this case!
