Credit Card Offers 50,000 bonus KrisFlyer miles with new HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card

I am trying to work this out. I got my 25k KF points re the promo earlier this year and I will get 20k KF points after 12 months if I renew and pay the AF. l also have KF Gold due to this. Can I can the KF gold after 12 months and get the 40000 Star Alliance points in lieu of the 20k KF points.

Yes I am on track, I have been spending exactly 4k every month since January. Don't want to spend anymore as the points after 3k are halved.

Those aren't the same thing. The 20k KrisFlyer miles are a specific sign on bonus; the 40k *A points is if you already hold Gold with the status airline you've chosen, which is the regular card perk. You can't swap them.

I understand that. I do hold Gold with SIA so can I not take up the 20k kf points but take the 40k Star Alliance and forgo my Gold status for year 2

I think you may get both then, but @Kangol may know more based on the conversations up thread.

This is the part to look at:

3.3. Anniversary Bonus KrisFlyer Miles: To be eligible to receive 20,000 anniversary bonus KrisFlyer miles, at the start of your second HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card year, you must:
a)
Have fulfilled the above criteria and received the Welcome Bonus KrisFlyer miles.
b) Retained Star Alliance Gold Status by spending a minimum of $48,000 AUD on eligible purchases using your HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card in the 12-month period starting from credit card account opening. See here for more information.
c)
Retain Singapore Airlines as your Status Airline following your first credit card anniversary and receive KrisFlyer Elite Gold status (or Star Alliance Points in lieu of Gold status)
d)
Your anniversary bonus KrisFlyer miles will be automatically credited to your KrisFlyer account up to 6-8 weeks from the successful issuance of your anniversary KrisFlyer Gold Elite status (or Star Alliance Points in lieu of Gold status).
e)
Issuance of anniversary KrisFlyer Elite Gold status (or Star Alliance Points in lieu of Gold status) under the Star Alliance Rewards T&Cs found here is a prerequisite to the issuance of anniversary bonus KrisFlyer miles.
f)
Anniversary bonus KrisFlyer miles will only be issued once, per eligible KrisFlyer member and only to the primary HSBC Star Alliance Credit Cardholder.

Is the *Gold earned through flying, or from the card promo?

So I will take up the 20k kf bonus points by renewing in year 2, spend 48k also in year 2 to retain Gold status for year 3 but then forgo my year 3 Gold for 40k Star Alliance points.

You can't voluntarily forgo the Gold for points, only by selecting a status airline that you already hold Gold with (at the time of qualification, when your KFEG status from this card will have already expired). So if you will fly enough to earn gold in year 2, sure, otherwise no.

I always fly J with SIA using my points so Gold doesn't give me any advantage. I will spend $48k with HSBC in year 2 which will give me Gold for year 3. Can I not take up the Gold in year 3 and exchange it for 40k SA points.
