Hi all - the title says it all in that I have retained call, but am contemplating if I should go for Platinum. I would require 440SC by end of the month and I am Sydney based. I anticipate my travel should increase for 2014/2015.

I looked at the status runs thread, but does anyone have any recommendations? I am free for all weekends into the end of the month so time should be OK.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I guess it would have to use cash as I think JASA can no longer be booked?

Bizare!

I was about to write a post along similar lines called is platinum worth it?

I am about 150 credits away from Platinum with a renewal date at the end of this month.

Am also of the understanding that JASA is no longer available, especially at short notice?

Have read through the MASA threads and don't fully understand how one can work out if it is available?

Am a 95% domestic traveller.

F on EK return SYD to AKL and then F again on EK SYD to CHC.
$4800 give or take if you can afford it.
OP if you decide to do this make sure you book the flights under the QF flight numbers or you will earn zero SCs.

Ouch !

I could not be bothered @ this level of ($) commitment.

Not worth that much IMO.

But only the OP could decide this Q on value of his WP.

BA PE fares to SIN offer better value. Connect from somewhere other than SYD is ticketed in full economy so you can earn 160SC for a return trip. Besides once in Singapore you can position for runs on intra Asia flights, probably on cheap MH J deals.

JASA should still be available (till 30 June). SYD-xBNE-TSV return with a Saturday night in TSV would return 200SCs for 48000 points +$$ (based on Classic Award availability and points) - x2. You might then be able to nest a SC run from TSV for the extra 40 SCs, depending on timings on 1 of the trips...

Only you can answer whether the $$$ is worth it. My personal story is that I did SYD-OOL jetstart sectors x2 when i was back in australia to get the minimum segments.

You say that your travel for 14/15 should increase, any estimate as to how far along into that year you might hit WP? As it stands you will already be at Gold so for the next year you are already ahead of the game, and if you are likely to hit WP say in the first 4 months, then I would say there's not much incentive to spend that kind of money to hit WP in advance. But this is my opinion of course.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Why does being SG put the OP ahead of the game for the next year? OP will still need 1400SCs to hit WP irrespective of current status!

Thanks for the tips everyone. I think (unfortunately) given time constraints I will not be able to get to Platinum this year, but I guess there is always next year. The positioning into Asia always seems like a good option with a CX/MH J mileage run, but I think this looks a bit too hard to do over a weekend (especially with not many decent priced Fri overnight flights out of Sydney)

Over the next year, I may need to reach out for guest entry into the F Lounge in Sydney though :):)
