Next week, we are travelling from Perth to Tahiti, via Sydney and Auckland!! The connections into and out of Sydney are great....but not so the ones in and out of Auckland. We have 4hrs 50mins between connecting flights on the way there, and 6hrs on the return journey. I would be very grateful for suggestions of anything to see / do in / near the airport

Less than an hour drive from the airport is Hunua Falls. Super easy 5min walk from the car park and beautiful photo op.

I found Auckland traffic to/from the city can be pretty heavy, depending on the time.

Thanks Denali....that definitely sounds worth doing and something that we'd enjoy!

Thanks TomVexille ......That sounds like a fab idea for the return leg, as it will be after lunchtime when we transit, so certainly suitable wine time!

Totally agree with Tom Vexille. Villa Maria is close to the airport, in a magnificent setting. Lunch is good there if you go at the right time; and there is always the wine. Considerable quality range, and many wines we never see in Australia.

Thanks ric_melb......sounds like we will be in for a treat there on our return journey.

I would personally jump on the Skybus and head into the city for an hour or two. The trip can take up to an hour though depending on traffic, so probably a better option for the 6 hour layover.
