Just looked at getting two family members home in J either thru LAX or SFO 355 days out from now....nothing there on QF. Any seat is 800k points each for J one way to SYD.
SQ only do 350 days forward but it looks good for getting back to PER in either all J or F and J with a lay over in Singapore. The points are at normal SQ rates.

Why am l not surprised????

What are the SQ rates?
What would be the classic QF rates, LAX-PER J?

On classic QF in J it is 36,000 PER to SYD and 96,000 SYD- LAX.
Usually a bit more on ANY SEAT but a 12 year old doesnt need SC'S and a few points as one of the travellers.
It is still one week to go for SQ to come available on the correct day so I can post those numbers in about a week.

Found a handful of options for QF J classic awards online for LAX-PER departing around October 2011. No QF F classic award options; I'd be calling QF Premium for these.

Any Seat Awards are blown out, so obviously no go for those.

All routing options I found are either on QF16 or FJ, so if you could afford it and you could get at it, I'd probably just take SQ anyway, even though they will be operated by the 747. Especially since the 747 redemption rates will be at the Saver level for premium classes.

You need to start them early. Some young people I know have over a 1000 lifetime status credits!

It all helps Cove........

Thanks for your replies.I do need a little bit of luck this week as I cannot split them up when we have a 12 year old travelling.
They have QF points but I can move them on SQ if all else fails.

QF16 is a good ASA option that will get 2 pax to Brisbane @ 110000 each, you can drop that back to the classic points level and pay $200 per pax.

Good availability 10/11/12th Oct. Dont forget the points redeemed do get reduced by the earn:

QF26 into AKL same story (cheaper redemption). Still need to get to Sydney but at least there will be more options with the LAX leg out of the way.

Missed the two today in J by a few minutes for 13th while I was waiting for my sister in law to answer her phone.
The 13th and 14th are the suitable QF dates so it is close to hitting the button time.
I may have to do it for her and not bother waiting.
The F for one and Y for the other was a NO!
Their final destination is Perth so BRISBANE,SYDNEY or MELBOURNE are all ok.

Markis10 thanks for your post on Brisbane QF16.
Are the 747 planes running out of Brisbane still the oldest in the fleet or are those old clunkers parked in the US desert?
It is a solution !

The newest 747s operate QF16 from the end of the year (ER's) but given the cabin refresh is also due, what you get in 360 odd days is anyone's guess.

I got them LAX-SYD on QF on OCT 13th,2011 so they are very happy to be in J when they are Bronze and a nobody. They werent chasing PS status so I grabbed the 96,000 classic on offer.
No SQ plan B required this time.
