and F check-in and F lounge are not really much help for hose of us that do not commence our international trips from SYD or MEL :(

Yes that is a little unfortunate. :(

I'll be doing a MEL-BNE-SIN trip in August 2012 so will get the "lack of F amenities" experience then. The F lounges at SIN/HKG/LHR and not as nice as the MEL and SYD lounges either.

Well there is an F lounge at BNE but it's really just a smaller, darker version of the J lounge without the view! Certainly not worth any effort to visit if you already have J lounge access as Gold.

Sometimes it can be quieter than the J lounge, other times I've been asked to go into the J lounge because the F lounge was full. The food is usually a little nicer in the F lounge.

They're fully paid tickets. Nadi is the place to go for cheap status!

The way to do it is ex BNE as Qantas.com lets you route BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN for no extra cost.
Just looking at this now for J flights in Jan, BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN is available for $771 and MEL-SYD-NAN for $843.

Is it possible to book the BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN and miss out the BNE-MEL leg? ie effectively do MEL-SYD-NAN for the cheaper $771?

Living in MEL, I don't want to do MEL-BNE the night before and worry about a hotel and transfers etc (as the BNE-MEL departs at ~6am, too early for me to get a MEL-BNE that morning)

OK I did it, got my extra SC...

I would like to thank all those who replied to my first post...

I flew Adl - Mel - Nadi return, 280 SC

Cheers Anthony

You need to take all legs of your trip otherwise the whole trip will be cancelled (including return legs). If you miss the last leg of a flight, you are charged for the fare difference (which can be thousands on certain flights).

Wow, thanks, had no idea..

In this case, the $72 difference I could put towards a Y MEL-BNE and overnight hotel stay which will get me an extra 60 + (15 or 30 depending on booking class) SCs and plenty more QFF points, hmm...

Do you have any relatives with the same name as you who would want to fly BNE/MEL at some stage? Otherwise the course of action I suggest is the one I can't suggest!

A stopover is permitted so it's possible to book eg BNE/MEL 10Dec & MEL/xSYD/NAN 20 Dec assuming flights operate on those days. Then you save money on accommodation.

Some people make two trips out of the one ticket ie if you wanted a weekend in BNE (ex MEL) or even just a same day return you could either buy a red-e-deal on QF, JQ or DJ - whichever is cheaper MEL/BNE then do the first sector of your Fiji ticket BNE/MEL to get you home.

Then in a couple of months time do your MEL/xSYD/NAN.

That's awesome, hadn't thought of that!

In the J one way BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN under stopovers in T&Cs it says:

"1 stopover permitted in each direction at your international point of departure (additional charges and taxes may be payable)"

I'll have to double check, but does that mean I can only make the stopover at SYD in this case? As the MEL-SYD departs from MEL T1 (ie domestic port)
Either way, how do you book the stopover online? Or is it something that you can only do by calling up QFF?

To get a stopover, use the multi booking tool; if the booking engine beleive you comply with the stopover rules then additional costs are minimal.

But it may need to be SYD where you take the break.

I have done this trip and had the stopover in MEL.

I too am off on my 1st Bne-Nan run. Thanks to all that have posted into this topic. I'm 365sc short of making WP for the 1st time. So with this run plus one work trip I'm over the line.

So did the person start the thread get WP status.

Also to get to the next status level you need to have first flown on your 4 eligible QF flights within the membership year (which I'm sure you've already done) as I have just found out before the system will reflect your new tier.

In HNL at the moment & after some domestic flying on AA  have enough status credits to be silver but still stuck on bronze whereas SO is already over the line.

The difference it makes is that I won't get the 50% points bonus for the JASA HNL/SYD/BNE & he will.
