Someone mentioned this on Facebook but I can't find any info on Qantas' site yet. A 30% reward seat sale started today on select routes. It looks like the following are covered:
- New Zealand (Y and J)
- Fiji (Y and J; includes FJ codeshare)
- BNE-SFO (Y and PE only)

I did some dummy searches and indeed the prices are 30% lower. Will update with more info as it comes to hand.

OzB suggests some domestic and other intl destinations have seen discounts. Please share if you notice any!

I just booked BNE to SFO and then SFO to BNE via MEL over December period. The flight coming home via melbourne was about 6000 points more at 35Kish. If you flew just to mel you would be using 41.9K points, so the discount did apply to BNE to SFO via syd or mel in my searches. Just as long as your start/end points are bris and sfo and travelling within 24 hr period of the previous flight land time.

Now to figure out how to get to either santiago or buenos aires cheaply for the solar eclipse!

I'm from Melbourne. Let's say I book SF-MEL-BNE to take advantage of the discount and on the day I would forfeit my connection to BNE, would there be any issue?

Your luggage going through to bne however you do have to pass customs. However if your sfo to Mel flight is canceled and they can route you directly to bne then they would put you on that flight. That is the risk you take. Not sure if they would charge you extra points but in reality your only saving 6k in points... is it worth that.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
