Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here. The connection time between these two flights appears to be a prenenial q+a topic, however I've never seen such a short time scheduled to make a connection. I booked my flight, departing March 13 on an A380 in Y and originally there was 120 minutes time for the connection. Then, Qantas switched to a 747 and pushed back the departure time, resulting in the now scheduled 30 mins time to make the connection.

Given every other time I have flown QF 93 to LA (havent connected before) the plane has either been late to depart or has arrived at the same time as 4 other jets at LAX resulting in a long immigration line, can i expect to get ushered thru to QF 107 that is waiting for the connecting passengers from QF 93 or will I find myself wedged into some AA flght?

I'm only feeling slightly worried because I have a dinner appointment in NYC that evening and I don't want to be stuck somewhere over the midwest.

Any views, suggestions more than welcome. Thanks.

Not a chance of this working.

You'll have to disembark, and go through customs/immigration in LA. That in itself will take well over 30 minutes.

Agree with JB but as they are both QF FLIGHTS they normally have at least 90 minutes to clear?

Check ur facts?

Spruce, I have checked my facts. The updated ticketing info gives me 30 mins to make this connection. Qantas.com also shows QF 93 departing at 12.10pm arriving at 8.20am while QF 107 departs at 8.50am on March 13 (the website is not selling this QF 93 - 107 connection tho - it is offering later AA flights instead). My original documents had me departing at 10.50am and arriving at LAX at 6.50am, plenty of time to make the connection.

Has anyone had any luck pleading to be rebooked (at no cost) onto a flight via Sydney when Qantas pulls this kind of cough?

Give QF call and plead your case. They will more than likely try to get you on alternate flights. There is no way 30 minutes is a valid connection at LAX by any stretch of the imagination.

Also, this is 107 (the corresponding flight of 10-late). Chances of it being on time as it is are low, and even then they do regularly delay it a little for people making connections.

Call QF and tell them your concerns (valid, as that's not a legal connection). If you miss 107, you needn't worry as they'll put you on an AA flight soon afterwards anyway.

Agreed with all others. 30 mins is simply impossible, it took me almost 2 1/4 hours in December (worst ever though)....

Give QF a call!

What cabin class are your travelling in?

From a service POV, there's a huge difference between that of Qantas and that of AA in Economy/Coach.

Your claims stack up, as the fare is not for sale I am surprised it was (re) ticketed. I note that 93 leaves Mel at 12.10, later than the previous times,

You won't need to plead anything here it is a case of common sense, I would rebook onto 25 if your appt in NYC can't be rearranged.

Not sure of your status, but the premium desk are great at dealing with this stuff.

Is it a daylight saving glitch?

On the facts as presented, OP could reroute to 25 to make the 107 comfortably, the concern is an a appt and not the type of aircraft, making SYD reroute not necessary.

Better to fix before travel.

As I have flown QF93 multiple times, something didn't look right about those times. Then it clicked to me. MAR13 is when the US goes back onto Daylight Savings Time so the arrival into LAX becomes 8.20am from that day forward instead of the normal 7.20/7.25 arrival times for other QF93 flights earlier that week. Interestingly enough, per the QF timetable, they are not adjusting the MEL departure time back to 11.10 until Tuesday MAR 15th so for Mar13th and Mar14th only QF93 will not connect with QF107. As already suggested, you can try to transfer onto QF25 on Mar13th, or else change your travel dates to MAR12th or MAR15th if possible.

I think it is a little harsh to talk about QF pulling this cough.

If these flights are on the same booking there is no issue and QF will have to sort it. If you are on different bookings then you took the risk and it has backfired on you. Flight times change all the time. Having said that if you ring them and calmly explain the problem they will probably help out.
