Fiji Airways have put on an extra 3 flights in December NAN/LAX (using 273 seats A332 - 24C+249Y) but strangely, nothing seems to connect with the flight at NAN, except a 737 (-700 or -800) from BNE.

Was looking last week & the new NAN/LAX services connected with 737 from MEL, but since then, the schedule has changed & instead of 2 x 737 flights MEL/NAN, FJ have 1 x A330 MEL/NAN on that day.

So maybe the extra flights are aimed squarely at yanks/Canucks ?

(realise busy time & they don't have aircraft just sitting around & probably the only time that could put on extra flight, as aircraft can't be in 2 places at once)

The flight arrives in LAX, the day before it departs NAN, just like a number of flights to HNL.

Just had a look & it appears the extra NAN/LAX have almost no bookings, so you'd think the flights to LAX would be cheap, BUT, the flights OZ/NAN in DEC seem to be very full already, or airline is hoping that people will pay high fares to Fiji in December.

Got it, I am sure it is, and taking Australians to US is only a secondary consideration. Fiji is a popular "exotic" destination in North America, has good brand equity and it will be the middle of winter at the time of these flights.

with an 0730 departure, you'd want to be staying at airport or very close the night before. Bet a lot of passengers might arrive at check in close to 0630.

Plenty of resorts in Fiji very close to the airport and I'm sure you're right, many would stay close by on their last night.

Denaru, closest resorts are prob good 20-25 mins to airport, as long as rds not flooded.

You'd need to get up at around 0430 at latest !!! Yuck.
