If you had a non-changeable ticket and you said to the airline you were feeling sick and wanted to take a later flight what do we think the response would be?

Yeah I know, travel insurance, but its a tough call to decide to miss a flight and then hope that doctors and your insurance company agree that you were sick, especially if you're just feeling a bit off after a meal before the flight.

Cruise lines ask you about illness before boarding but the form explicitly says you will NOT be denied boarding if sick, you will just get special medical attention to make sure it doesn't spread.

I agree with those points, apparently they are kids so you hav the added complications of a carer being required, and having to tell the parents back home!

If you do manage to creep past the 'have you been unwell' question and get on the ship, and then you need to seek medical advice on board, you will be quarantined in yr cabin if I am correct.

And a follow up this afternoon:

A group of high school students have been discharged from hospital following a horror 13-hour flight from Santiago to Sydney on which they were struck down with severe vomiting and diarrhoea.

The 16 patients - all Victorian high school students and their teachers - spent the night in hospital but were well enough to eat a "bit of toast and Vegemite" on Friday morning after a disastrous end to their pilgrimage to South America for World Youth Day.
They're all out of hospital eating a bit of toast and Vegemite and swapping war stories.
They were hoping to fly back to Melbourne on Friday afternoon, if the health of one of the group improved, a spokesman for Catholic Education Melbourne said.

Hope the flight back to MEL is drama free. Not nearly enough toilets if something goes wrong.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I don't want to revisit the topic but this flight is an example to QF why taking toilets out of aircraft for more seats is NOT a good thing.

Clearly the entire fleet needs to be refurbished for the 0.0000001% of times this situation occurs.

Doubt they had enough Imodium to cater for that number, if they have any?
I carry Imodium/gastro stop with me in one those little leather wallets I got when I had Hilton Premium Club membership. Is big enough where I can also keep some other medication in there and fits in my inside jacket pocket easily and is always with me.

Hence the reason why I don't have ice in any drinks while away in "out of the way" places, bottled water only, I even brush my teeth from a bottle of water
I have been putting ice in my beer in Thailand and Singapore for many years and I have never had an issue and I have had a drink in some questionable places.

I do rinse my toothbrush with bottled water though.

I am probably used to all of the bacteria I am likely to get by now.

JohnK, with your usual style, you've mentioned why locals in (say) Rio could rink the water or put ice in their drinks with no adverse consequences but for these teenagers, the outcome was different.

Having been similarly afflicted prior to boarding a PR flight between MNL and MEL at night a few months ago, I then only had water for the entire eight hours - but I'd been fortunate enough to have already had copious amounts of rehydration solution and the permitted dosage of Immodium, so I was largely OK.

I hope that the QF crew showed a little compassion and stocked the lavatories down the back with spare rolls of toilet paper - although of course supplies are finite.

I am not a local in either Thailand or Singapore. I don't mind using the ice but I avoid drinking tap water if that makes any sense.

And I feel sorry for these teenagers.
