Hi all,

A while ago some of you (I think Mal was first) put me onto Duty Free Stores New Zealand - Duty Free NZ - Free delivery to all New Zealand airports and their membership club, which gives 20% off DF alcohol purchases via the website. Used it a few times and got some great bargains.

Just received an e-mail saying they're now giving an additional 5% (total 25%) off alcohol for the next 10 days.

Makes a bottle of Cloudy Bay $20AUD and a bottle of Talisker 10yo (1L) $50AUD. Bargain. :D

Just thought I'd share. I'm on my way to AKL at the moment so this e-mail has come at juust the right time (especially seeing as DF alcohol on my US trip next week won't be nearly as cheap anymore...)

Cheers,
- Febs.

I received the same e-mail; it's for pre orders and you need to allow 3 (NZ) working days.

Nicely in time too, as I'm off to AKL this weekend ...

I also have some NZ travel in March and May, so I'll investigate them as well.

Note that to receive the 25% / 10% order must be made by December 10th.

(Normal discounts are 20% / 5%)

Note, that "due to NZ Law", none of these discounts apply to tobacco products.

Serfty

2003 Grange at the Wine Store at AKL (the store on the left after the stairs) is a bargin - NZD$499

MSG me if you would like to buy me one and give it to me for XMAS :D

Take your place in the queue please...:p

Yep a great deal - especially since normally with 20% off the duty free is about 25%-30% cheaper than Australia for most products.

That suggests an interesting challenge - are there any wines (or other alcoholic products) where the savings from this would outweigh the cost of a flight to AKL? You would need to save more than $514 on Aust. retail prices over the full duty free allowance. Minus of course any value given to status run potential :)

Dom perhaps? 2 bottles + pack of cigarettes @ 25% off would probably be around $300 saving. Expensive spirits like Johnny Blue also could come close.
If leaving the AKL airport and having friends over there, you could also legally bring in about 6 bottles of wine+3 bottles spirits+200 cigarettes.

* Not more than 3 bottles of spirits (up to a maximum of 1125ml each)
* 4.5 litres of Wine, port, Sherry, Champagne (six bottles) or beer (12 cans).
* 200 cigarettes or 250 gms of tobacco or 50 cigars
* NZ $700 of other goods purchased Duty Free or overseas.

I can’t really believe that in this day and age anyone would honestly make such an argument, either AIAP managers think their customers are very stupid and lead sheltered lives, or managed actually have bought the line that complete lack of competition leads to diversity in offerings, lower prices, and more benefits to consumers. The third possibility is that they know it is complete rubbish, but that in fact they are going to make a bundle of cash from having one operator - if this is the case they should just say it, and not treat us as fools.

Ummm...what?

Finally, someone who shares my views bout The Advertising and Illustrative Photographers Association of New Zealand. :p

I never thought I'd see such a strong opinion about 25% off duty free booze!
