Hey all,

So my itinerary was changed due to a flight cancellation, now I'm over-nighting in New York in September. Land at JFK around 3pm and fly out midday the next day. I've read there's NOTHING around JFK, but making the long subway trek or expensive taxi ride into Brooklyn/Manhattan doesn't seem all that appealing either. Especially when we're spending quite a long time in NYC not long after this.

At this point I'm just planning on heading to Brooklyn via subway and spending the night there.

So I'm reaching out for any alternative suggestions I might not have considered. I have SPG/Marriott and IHG points so would prefer to stick to those brands if possible.

Thanks

Hi mate - a long shot I know but...

I am there for a few nights in September :) Staying at Aloft Brooklyn 2nd-6th of September.

Flying in from HEL via LHR. I think you head that way a bit too?

Plenty of airport hotels, so all depends on what you're after.

Hotels up Long Island can be even cheaper and lots of local restaurants and bars in places,
Or you could hire a car and go up to the Hamptons

This sounds like an interesting idea - I'll have to investigate it a bit more. Any recommendation on what area to stay in The Hamptons?

Taxi to town is fixed price at $55

Yes + 15% tip so $63USD each way. ~$170AUD return is a sizeable amount for 24hr.

If it were 12 hrs I would just stay at the airport, but 24h is just that bit too long.

If going downtown, it's not too bad if you stay around Penn station. LIRR from Jamaica to Penn station is 20 mins plus of course 15mins to get to Jamaica on Airtrain.

Look around Queens or Brooklyn if you don't want to trek to Manhattan (especially since you have a stay there coming up)
