2026 travel plans

Hmmmm, was going to Croatia to see young Australian rally driver Taylor Gill compete in the WRC round next month. Not happening now.
Late June into July one rally I have wanted to go to for yonks, Rally Greece, of course with my friends from Rally Travels.
Then, at this stage, back up to Albania and more back country roads, with side trip into Kosovo, north Macedonia and probably Montenegro. Of course this means she will get 3 new countries.... :(
Finishing in Austria for a tarmac rally based in Weiz and catch up with friends.

Later in the year, Sardinia again, must be 6 or 7 times now, love the place! This rally has been my favourite and will run for the last time for a while on the island.

Closer, seeing that I cancelled NZ to go to Croatia, which is not happening either, and the boy is in jail for a bit over two weeks, a road trip here beckons, probably Victoria, never been to Bendigo, nor Ballarat, we'll see what happens.

Our 2026 visit to family is largely booked now, except for the side trips.

We have QF1 SYD-SIN as a positioning flight, in early August (CR in Y). Being a largely day flight we decided not to splash out, although do have an upgrade request in for PE, but having fallen from the lofty heights of WP down to our lifetime silver basement, its unlikely we will get it.

2 nights at CP Changi, before EK SIN-DXB-LGW in J, staying with our daughter and family in SE25.

While in UK we will have several side trips:

1. A week in Germany, flying in to BER and hiring a car for some touring around with daughter's family.
2. A few days in Manchester with cousins.
3. A week in Cornwall on our own.

We fly out of LGW with EK in J back to SIN after 5 weeks in UK/EU.

Another 2 nights at CP Changi before flying back to SYD with SQ in Y on their day flight (777). We did this last May and found it was quite doable for a day flight.
after spending four months working in Cornwall last year even though I had been a few times before I think you could spend six months there. Enjoy

My family is from the lizard area, and I have been back quite a few times over the years. Thinking of a week in Penzance this time (the other side of Mount's Bay from the Lizard), going down from London on a GWR train.

I presume you know about Pullman Dining train | Book the ultimate train dining experience online | Great Western Railway

There has been a bit of mention about train fares changing according to the Man in Seat 61.

I was going to London from Truro and wanted to be sure of getting into the Pullman dining and first class was over £160 so I caught the local train to Exeter for about £10 and then the first class from Exeter to London for about £48

There is also this now

Travel plans. Tell me about it.

I have a ticket for 3 weeks time MNL-AUH-MXP. I don't have a good feeling about it actually happening (you know why).

So I would love for the flights to be cancelled, so I can get my money back, and change my holiday to Thailand. Flying through the ME will be a thing of the past for me from now on.

Life's difficult enough without this sort of carp being thrown at you.

Boy this whole ME thing is certainly a serious concern for the whole world. And for those of us with travel plans via the ME in the coming weeks/months - who knows. We have (award) ticket booked via DOH to MLA at the end of May - it's still a relatively long way off - but just to sure - I booked new tickets on TG (another award this time using AC) - can't believe it was available (PER-BKK-FRA) - I'll fill in the gaps when it and if become necessary to cancel the first itinerary via DOH.

2025 was pretty quiet for me. A Y trip to Christchurch with my wife. Gold status and not a lot to show for it.

So I'm back to LTS this year.

2026 could be good. Or not.

June we have a cruise around Japan. I upgraded the economy air of the package deal CBR-NRT to business at enormous expense and I think I got into last year's DSC window. QF J flights all the way.

July, it's just me and a weekend in St Albans. Booked through Flat Beds who speak AFF. Squeaked into this year's DSC. One Y flight on Qantaslink to Sydney and after that it's QF J to Manila and WY J via Muscat to Heathrow. Return in reverse, apart from having a J seat back from Brisbane on an E190.

If this all lines up, I should be back to the lofty heights of WP and within shouting distance of LTG.

I've never been to Muscat and the transits there are 2:15 both ways. I assume that this will be straightforward and I will likely have time for a shower and a bit of internet.

Manila is another unknown. I have a twelve-hour overnight stopover on the way out, and a 24-hour transit on the way back. Not terribly convenient but these apparently saved me a few thousand dollars. Are there airport hotels? Huge queues for immigration? Visas?

Not happy about various lunkheads stirring up wars. This could all come crashing down if things go downhill but we might all have bigger problems if that happens.

Belmont Hotel across the road from the international terminal. There is a covered walkway from the terminal to the hotel. When going through immigration / security on the way out there is a special area for J class pax that works very well in my experience. Go to the CX lounge rather than the lounge that Qantas direct you to (PAGSS).
