2025 travel plans

Accommodation locked in for Hoi An. Mid-Dec to mid-Jan.

$2.5k for a three bed private home with a pool. Halfway between the beach and the Old Town.

MrsGM booked and paid for it the other day, but didn't tell me until yesterday.

I haven't even applied for leave yet, so cross your fingers that works out.

Pick your battles. A divorce will cost more than finding a new job! 😀

I'll chime in here: Ireland / Scotland / England for 2 months August/Sep this year.
I'm hunting down my ancestors.
During lockdown I started doing my Ancestry and found out my very early ppl were poor Irish tenent farmers. But also Scottish mob were Lairds in the Highlands and owned a couple of castles!! My English mob were mostly from East Sussex - they were involved in the 1066 William the Conqueror battle at Hastings. It appears this lot were Nobles and owned castles and manors all over the county. Somehow between 1066 and the 1800s, these nobles lost all their money and possesions and found themselves on free passage to Australia as labourers to help build a new colony.
Might see if I can make claim on some nice Manors whilst there!! haha.

Just back from 5 weeks in Italy, Switzerland, Slovenia and Croatia (mainly Italy) so not much more can be done this year. However in breaking news (last week) I have managed to get two tickets to walk the Milford Track, NZ's most sought after Great Walk, which sells out within half an hour of opening each year. Bucket list item. But that's Feb 2026.

Did it back in the mid 60s. You just turned up then.

Good guess on my age! (Edit: rereading "you just turned up then" you meant you didn't have to book... I thought you we referring to my youth, having only been born in the mid 60s... when I just turned up...)
I've done 4 of the 9 (now 11) Great Walks of NZ and am doing Abel Tasman in November so I'll be over halfway. Keen to complete the 10 terrestrial walks over the next few years, while I'm still capable.
