2022 travel plans

I've just booked my first flights in 2022 - back to Canberra after visiting the family for Christmas!

Yet to plan anything international though, my long service leave is coming up mid-year though, so I'll be able to take a decent break! Got to get myself to Malaysia (and probably Singapore while I'm at it) to see family at some point (assuming my antivaxxer relatives eventually come around), and otherwise hopefully Europe or Japan.

Well an update....
Hotel emailed me to say they're closing their doors permanently, so will now send me a refund.
Which will take a while cause I long ago closed the card used to book the place.
They'll contact me for bank transfer details when that refund request bounces back. So could be a while.

Adding insult to injury, the whole thing was and is being processed in yen, which has significantly weakened against the Aussie dollar lately, so I'll be out several hundred dollarydoos when all said and done.
Let it go onto the card (it won't bounce anyway) and then call the bank asking them to chargeback the different as the transaction should be backed out rather than refunded. Worked well for me on some flights last year where I was due to lose out on ForEx movements.

Second that
Contact the cc provider with the details

I rang bank about a similar scenario and the money can be transferred to another card or account.

I've found the physical card (kept it just in case) so I'll see what I can do.

Covidpass entry app for each state will be using up a lot of storage.
G2G is shared by some states, which is a good thing, but still, pain in the you know where to apply for entry "permit", term it as a visa.
Not to mention when the app breaks down.
All these are deterring me from booking any flights, not to mention paying for the negative PCR test, esp if a person wanted to visit NZ, yes, I know at the moment its no go, and AirNZ have cancelled many of its flights between now and end of Dec.
I don't plan to book any flights for the forseeable future.

Contacted 28 Degrees and will see what they make of it all.
Update...

28Degrees did nothing, as they said the disputed transaction was out of their timeframe for review.

The refund has just landed. $2360... so in the end I'm out about $400 or so. Annoying, but can't change it now.

Also I have to transfer the money out of that account and then close it. Again.

We both need new laptops though so the money will be handy. Or I'll put it aside in the hope a trip to Japan is still somehow possible in a year or so.

Goes to show how rubbish they are. 2 of my card providers here (AMEX, MBNA) had no issues in doing this.

I can see why international travel businesses will still suffer in 2022. Not many more desparate to travel oversea's than me, but even I baulked at hitting the pay&book button last night. Bit nervous of how testing timeframe, Phnom Penh airport letting me in even with Melb COVID test, reading up holes in travel insurance in regards to COVID, trusting Michael Gunner to let me back in without quarantine (indicates 20th Dec, but not formal). Even airfare cost, and money is not a huge factor here, but don't want to pay double what it would have been two years ago.

Still likely do this quick trip, but maybe book early Jan, that way I know border issues and quarantine.

Poland for 2 weeks end of June taking my 16 year old son may be on the cards if he shows any passion for this, and of course Europe get's through COVID winter OK and cases drop dramatically.

It's hospitalisations and deaths that should be the focus rather than case numbers.

I’d like to hook up the caravan and go somewhere, but I suspect that NT will still be iffy, and Qld isn’t worth the effort. So, northern NSW or southwest Vic. Wife and I have both decided that overseas is unlikely before our dotage, so we’ve permanently given up on that.

The only trip I've got locked in is West Coast of Canada for a week in mid-January.

I hope to go to the UK-France for about a week in June and see my family in Auckland at some stage but looks like that'll be well into 2022 with Jacinda's announcement today.
