5 grid penalty seems unders compared to the impact on RBR and McL.

If memory serves there was some footage, possibly Stroll's on board, that somewhat suggested he may have been diving to avoid Ocon, who ducked right to avoid Bottas' rampage.

Doesn't remove the need for the penalty to Stroll also, but potentially the flow on from Bottas rather than a complete muppet move.

The penalties handed out really do seem to be rather insignificant in the scheme of things don't they. Perhaps further effected by the two tiered nature of the current 10 teams (ie less inconvenient on Bottas vs Stroll). Which was part of the issue with the HAM penalty and the subsequent RBR grumbles.

I think grid penalties also come with points off a driver’s licence. Lose too many and you have to sit out a race.

VET now disqualified and HAM goes up again.

I liked how Alonso fought him and HAM was whinging on the radio "He's driving dangerously... can cause an accident etc" Funny how that doesnt apply to him.

A crash last time = 10 second penalty...this race 5 grid spots?????

Very big impact to RBR this year also given the caps on spending this season, those cars 'aint going to be be cheap to fix ....... and that comes out of their total budget. As I said, Mercedes are doing their job very well.

Hope he is not paid to come 2nd like Bottas was...

See in the last race when they said "Dont get the fastest lap, Lewis needs the point"

Zero chance.

Just like Charles came into a team with an ageing #1 driver, George has been earmarked for exactly the same reason.
With the huge regulation changes for next year it's all up in the air however hypothetically if 2022 were a continuation of the 2021 regs, I'd put money on George beating Lewis over the course of the season.

Also great to see Alex back on the grid for next year.

All depends.
If 2022 turns out like Dan's first season in the RB versus Seb, the support changes very quickly.
As it did for Dan only a couple of years later.

Piastri with a pole in F2 Qualifying, and came through the reverse grid field to get 4th in the first race.

Strange rules for Bottas in F1 who took Qualifying Pole with a new engine.
He will start 1st for Sprint Qualy, and can earn points, but will be demoted to back of field for the main race.

A good Qualy for Riccardio finishing 5th, but only hundredths behind Norris and Verstappen. Hamilton in 2nd.

Sprint race Qualifying at Monza this weekend.

Plus F2 for those interested.
I've been watching more of the F2 races this year, as they certainly more exciting. Although qualifying is chaotic. But full marks to young Oscar Piastri, a future Aussie F1 star

F2 main race interesting ...

RIC did ok in the qualifying sprint race. HAM poor start let RIC take good place over team-mate.

Question is when.
There's really only the Alfa seat left for 2022.
And Giovinazzi could retain it, or deVries (2019 F2 and 2021 Fe Champion) is deserving.
But also suggestions that Zhou (currently 2nd in F2 in his 3rd year) but with big Chinese sponsorship $$s might get it.

If you win F2 you are excluded from competing again. So might actually be better for Piastri not to win the championship, as he risks ending up in the wilderness.

Complicating things further both Zhou and Piastri are Renault/Alpine academy drivers so under some form of contract.
