2020 Travel Plans

I expect the van will get another 2 month run. Up through central NSW and QLD, and then back down the middle via the Flinders sounds like a good plan.

I was thinking about an aviation museum trip to the USA. The boss isn’t interested (no surprises there), but looks like my planned partner in crime might not be able to do it either. So, might be a solo ‘old aeroplane’ trip.

The first booking for 2020 has now started - SQ Suites secured into and out of LHR.... the plan at this stage is to spend 2 weeks driving around Sicily, but it could easily change to absolutely anything. The sky is the limit....

mrsamaroo really wants to visit Patagonia ... I suppose it will have to be the end of this year or 2020. Anyone have any ideas on the best time of the year to visit?

I'd suggest not winter... ;):):p.

Make sure to hike to Torres del Paine - a day's stroll ;):p from the lodge, but absolutely awesome: Pushing uphill in Patagonia and chilling in Antarctica

Walking poles strongly advised - mainly for coming down on the loose surface. Take plenty of water. There is a small cafe about half way.

If you're feeling Big Dog, do 'the W'.

So Christmas is the best time?

In Patagonia, you really need to visit both Chile (Torres del Paine/Lago Grey/Puerto Natales etc.) and Argentina (El Calafate/Perito Merino glacier, El Chalten/Fitz Roy etc).

The best way to travel is rent a car, but taking rental cars across the border is a hassle. You need to get permission from the rental car company and the paperwork at the border is worse for the car than for persons. Not impossible, but I would suggest not worth the hassle.

I'd suggest renting a car separately each side and just take a bus between.

It really is an utterly stunning part of the world.

Do a trip to Antarctica while you're there ;).

Next year is Mr Katie's 50th and our 20th wedding anniversary, so we are planning a week in NYC for just the two of us. Fancy lunches and shows every night! Or something like that - food and theatre will be the them. Maybe around Sept/Oct, but avoiding the Aussie School hols.

I'll have a trip to Seattle/Bellevue in May for a conference. Depending on a few things, may have a trip later in the year to the DC area.
We might also head back to Winton in June, assuming the Vision Splendid Film Festival will be on next year.
