Shame Ham didn’t miss Q3 would have made the race amazing. Now likelynprocessional (hope I’m wrong).
Also much better start time (910pm east coast).
Yes, if only a few were able to back him up a little longer in that frantic last 2 minutes. Could have seen a much different race tonight.

Agree also. I thought he was gone initially when Vettel hit the tyres.

Imagine the conspiracy theories though if he had been...! 😂

"They are trying to stop me"... wow, just wow. You and your team made a bad decision that had the potential to cause a serious incident. Get over yourself, own it and move on.

Also of note, clothes with slogans to push causes now explicitly not allowed:
I did cringe when I saw him wearing that shirt on the podium and the post race interviews. Completely understand the cause and don't disagree with it however that stunt made the whole movement in F1 look ridiculous and detracted from the bigger picture.

In other news Michael Schumacher will make his F1 debut this weekend in Antonio Giovinazzi's seat at Alfa Romeo for FP1. Callum Ilott will also debut in the HAAS for FP1.

Honda gone end 2021.
Red Bull and Alpha Tauri looking for engines.
Sigh....so 2022 season is essentially Formula Mercedes (not that Honda was making much inroads this season)

Damn! That's horrible news.
Even with Renault improving, the idea of going back to three engine manufacturers is depressing.

Under the current rules, Renault would be obliged to supply Red Bull and AlphaTauri with engines as they currently have the fewest customers, unless the teams can convince Mercedes or Ferrari to provide a supply.

Christian and Cyril back working closely together...

With no FP1 nor FP2 yesterday, FP3 brought a surprise with both Ferraris doing ok.

Qualifying for German (Eifel GP) F1 race soon.

Good to see Danny Ric on the podium. Shall be interesting to see what tattoo design he comes up with!

Have to feel a little sorry for VB to have to retire and with him any chance of a slightly different Mercedes champion for 2020.

My hot-take instant reaction is the cold weather made the Eifel GP an interesting race

Certainly more engine issues than normal and it made tyre wear interesting.

Riccardo was unlucky that the first VSC ended just as he pitted, nullifying his advantage, and I suspect meaning Perez would have got 3rd.

Then very lucky with the SC allowing him to go into softs and nullifying Perez's advantage.

Any time one of the Mercedes DNF early it generally makes for an interesting race. As others have said it's great to see Dan back on the podium. Shame he forgot about the shuey.

Fingers crossed Portugal also turns out to be an interesting race with very little historical data and shorter weekend schedule.

The reduced practice running no doubt helps - F1 teams love data - they typically know how the race will go before it starts!

On race day a few things will make it more challenging for the teams:
- Add rain (with no wet running in practice)
- reduced practice overall
- marginal decisions on fuel or tyres where the split (One stop vs two or two vs three; or where an all green flag run would bring teams closer to the full fuel use meaning they have to compomise speed etc)

I think the reduced race weekend should make things more interesting with less running in advance. It may also help the teams longer term with the cost-cap.

I think the other interesting question is what Red Bull does as Honda departs - they are over the cost cap currently by $100m pa, but they could “redeploy” those excess funds to run an engine program themselves absent a new enfgine supplier - they could take over the Honda operation (? How much more pa would they need??) And smooth the transition.

The other piece of the puzzle is they must be getting close to finalising their 2021 driver lineup - whether they stick with Albon, switch back to Gasly again, or draft Hulk (would seem the three most likely scenarios).

Surprise, surprise... the 2020 Portuguese F1 GP comes and goes - Ferrari improvement, interesting first few laps, most of the field getting lapped, Hamilton career wins record - and not a peep from the AFF thread.

So, who thinks they will be in Melbourne on March 21?

More chance of F1 than Aus Open but less than the cricket.

Quarantine is likely still going to be needed and the issue is the numbers involved.
F1 teams can probably fly in secure hotel, secure pit lane etc.
Tennis is far more difficult given the lengthier timeframe and need to practice etc.

Indian cricket squad is probably 30ppl.
F1 probably 50x 10 teams - 500ppl
Tennis ~400 players X 3 - 1200ppl
