Australia's Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy will go for the gold medal in about 30 minutes.

Australia's Harry Garside men's lightweight (boxing) has his semi-final at about 3:45pm (AEST)

No I was thinking men on the track.i totally forgot about the walkers.
He is of course the first Australian man to win a medal in the Decathlon.

Tomorrow I am hoping a Tasmanian wins the first gold medal for Australia in the 1500m since 1960.

I've always thought the Decathlon is the one true Olympic sport and those athletes are just incredibly talented. We had been following the event for the last two nights and that finale was brilliant. Well done to every competitor but that bronze was speshul.
Their first event on the second day of the decathlon started at something like 1000. The final event, that 1500m, started at 2230.
Decathlon and Heptathlon are indeed pretty "spairshhhul".

Our Chef de Mission going for an Olympic record, and sounding like a broken one, with all these apologies.

With all but 1 competitions over (men's water polo remaining), the final medal tally:
1st USA - 39 gold medals
2nd China - 38 gold medals
3rd Japan - 27 gold medals

...

6th Australia 17 gold medals, 7 silver medals, 22 bronze medals

...

13th New Zealand 7 gold medals, 6 silver medals, 7 bronze medals.

...

Then on to the closing ceremony. Mat Belcher (sailing) will be Australia's closing ceremony flag bearer.

Maybe continue the thread with the 2020 [2021] Paralympics.

Watching the closing ceremony with all of those empty seats was heartbreaking. Full credit to the people of Japan and Tokyo who carried off the games in very trying circumstances - being in effect forced by the IOC to conduct them. I went to Tokyo in April 2019 and went to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building (free observation deck) with an Olympic exhibition and it all looked so organised and ready to go.

Hopefully things are better for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham (and the Winter Olympics in Beijing).

Another way of looking at countries medal performance.NZ did really well.
