I was another who wouldn't vote for Turnbull.I even preferenced the ALP above the LNP.I had not done that previously even though after the first election after moving to QLD (1992) I could not bring myself to vote for the local member-sleazebag Slipper.
Turnbull is a wrecker.Just look at the performance after he stepped down.He was not a unifying force as even as PM he was leaking against conservative colleagues especially Abbott.

The big policy loser in this election is possibly going to be indigenous Australians.Abbott was a big supporter and was prepared to listen and change his mind. And sorry L_t_l Mundine is also a loss as a fellow with a good sense of reality.Jacinta Price would have made a great member of the House.

Yes the second election where Climate Change was promoted by ALP/Greens as the central issue. This time the swing to the coalition. In NSW a swing to the Shooters and Fishers winning 3 rural seats on their policy of-we don't believe in Climate Change and we want a new coal powered station built.

I am hoping that the Rudd-Gillard-Rudd-Abbott-Turnbull-Morrison revolving door will finally stop revolving and some stability will return and good centrist government will prevail.

I do remember Tony Abbott for his very personal and not widely known role in the aftermath of the Bali Bombing - those who know will remember/ those who don’t may want to read up on it. Has nothing to do with politics but it is a measure of the bloke.

Abundant cheap baseload. Not dispatchable high cost intermittent suppliers who jump in when prices are high and jump out when prices are low - overall restricting supply.

With abundant baseload we can:
Desalinate water
Move water
Secure Agricultural production
Have high wages and reduce cost of energy intensive production
Value adding production

Is it that they don't believe in climate change, or they do believe in it ..... but just don't care?

Those pesky polls (conspiracy theory alert) had supposedly identified that even Coalition voters were getting impatient with the lack of policy action on climate change. Labor were fooled into believing that this would translate into some conservative voters pulling their heads out and crossing over.

Unfortunately this was the one true example of Virtue Signalling that I am aware of. The coalition voters may have finally realised that Andrew Bolt, Ray Hadley, Miranda Devine, etc are not actually climate scientists, but putting the interests of future generations before their own wealth? Come on.

In Australia what will give us cheap reliable base load power.

Guess we will just have to agree to disagree on a range of things here, including Abbott and Indigenous affairs, Mundine. Jacinta Price and Turnbull. :D

Andrew Bolt, Ray Hadley, Miranda Devine

Ah, those good 'ol reliable boogeymen. But what about Rupert? He'd be most offended if anyone thought his direct line to every editorial decision had been forgotten.

Honestly, people don't need media commentators to tell them that losing thousands from their retirement, hundreds of jobs from their communities and sending billions overseas to pay for "carbon offsets" are bad for them. And its insulting them to imply that they can't.

But what's new?

Hydro - and its renewable and "carbon free" ! Which is why, I guess, the Greens can't stand it. In Tasmania we still give thanks to Bob Brown every day for causing us to go to fossil fuels rather than rely totally on hydro power.

ALP/Greens called this a climate change election. The result speaks for itself. The punters smell BS a mile away. What policies did the ALP have in growing the nation. Zip

If it’s true Sources say Snowy 2.0 will use more electricity to pump the water back up the hill then it generates going down. What about nuclear massive power generation ZERO emissions or a mix of both

I'm happy to be corrected, but I think the way it works is that the coal fired power (boo, hiss!!) generated overnight, which otherwise would be wasted is used for the pumping. So it comes out in front.

Of course if you close down the coal fired stations, the 'battery of the nation' sorta goes flat. But then, again, the Greens don't count hydro as green power, because they can't separate from their anti-dams history. They are totally into mining-reliant solar power and eagle-chopping wind power.

I wonder what Julie Bishops chances are getting the ambassador to USA

I have an idea. Remember when push bikes used to have those little dynamo things that spun on the wheel and generate power to make the light work. We could attach thousands and thousands of those to exercise bikes put them out in all the parks of the inner city greens electorate and gather all greens voters and the climate change warriors and get them to ride them all night when the wind doesn’t blow and the sun doesn’t shine.

"Direct line"? He doesn't need it, as the agenda is well understood by the editorial staff. Just ask them, if you don't believe that to be true.

"Losing thousands from their retirement"? I'm not sure what is the link to climate change policy here. Could you elaborate??

Ditto the "hundreds of jobs." The renewable energy sector employs thousands, but that is a non-issue

"Sending Billions overseas" Would you care to elaborate how that will work - I didn't notice this.

What's new? Nothing here ....

That's the point - it's a natural battery. Without all the lithium and recycling issues of a battery. Batteries (and indeed power transmission lines and transformers all have leakage as well)

Use wind and solar to pump water up hill, generate power relatively on demand when you need it.

Nuclear may not emit CO2 but it's got some other pretty nasty byproducts.

I think someone mentioned upthread Germany getting out of coal by 2040 - they are also closing all nuclear plants even earlier.

More charm from the Turnbull family. (The Oz, probably paywalled).

The father:
Former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has taken a fresh swipe at Peter Dutton while congratulating Scott Morrison on a “very outstanding personal victory” in Saturday’s election.

“I congratulate Scott on a very outstanding personal victory … I’m very glad that in that dreadful time in August he succeeded to the prime ministership rather than Peter Dutton,” Mr Turnbull said.

Mr Turnbull made the comments today when arriving back in Australia from a holiday that coincided with the tail end of the election campaign
.

The son ... and GetUp campaigner ...

It comes as Alex Turnbull labelled former prime minster and Tony Abbott a “terrorist” and expressed his delight at the former prime minister’s election defeat in the seat of Warringah.

“I am very happy I got rid of Tony,” he told 9 News, also acknowledging the grassroots campaign behind independent victor Zali Steggall.

“Tony was very much a terrorist.”

Sorry - are you saying climate change is BS? Or having a climate change policy is BS? Or that everything to the left of Rupert is BS? [ Option D - all of the above, is also available.

Growing the nation. Do you mean population or GDP or productivity?

IMO. The climate is changing but I do not believe in a climate emergency. Growing the economy. BS to flippant ALP policies that the voters obviously don’t agree with for now. The election result speaks for that. A climate change policy that involves sensible debate and not run on emotions.
Oh and who is Rupert

1st point: Its not all about Climate Change ... only the Greens have that single mind set.
2nd: Jobs a non issue? Says a lot. :) Yes, renewables will provide jobs, but only with massive taxpayer subsidies for consumers and the developers. There are probably more jobs per MW developed with renewables (solar and wind at least), because the projects are individually smaller. Reckon that doesn't add to the cost per MW? But I am also thinking about Adani in Qld. Thousand+ jobs. Right there.
3rd: The scheme where you pay offshore companies to produce 'carbon offsets' so Australia can 'reduce its net emissions'. Al Gore will tell you all about it - the world's first 'Climate Billionaire'.
