I wonder if the authors of these types of stories/lists ever think about it or do they just pick random places?

Map of the world on the wall with some darts in their hand? :p

Hope they don't hit the same spot as last year, but if they do they can say it's just that good! ;)

Well, commerce. Lonely Planet with its plethora of guides does have a hand in such lists.

Cynical me believes it because the outfit publishing the list has a few new advertising contracts.

Not sure about that list however, Mexico is on our must visit list for 2017.

Travelling by ship from Boston up east coast to various ports Bar Harbour, Halifax, Prince Edward Island, Quebec city and ending up in Montreal a place we've always wanted to visit. The Seattle Boeing Factory in on our list for 2017 too. This will be circle pacific BNE/HKG/BOS/YUL/SEA/LAX/BNE 2 x J.

Nat Geo had a doco on Crystal Cave in Mexico - amazing. Pity we cant see it for ourselves but humans would only destroy it and as its 50+C down there, it would kill us within 40min. If you get a chance to find it on Foxtel, watch it. Stunning crystals, meters long and in diameter.

I'm heading to Cuba in April, hoping to get there before the first McDonalds ;)

I agree with this post. I think Cuba would be interesting, but really must be done before the influx of like-minded souls. I doubt I'll get there before that happens. I appear to be well on the way, as I've visited 10 of the 30 places listed.

EDIT: I see they've already heard of Buzz's wine tours as they placed him 5th in the top regions list!

Bring me back an old Chevie from Cuba to restore :)

Hopefully they'll let you. Many years ago a friends brother in law priced it. The only roadblock was whether it would meet Murcian clearance. He stuck with collecting old Mercedes instead.
