Hopefully the Q2 promo is going to have something for everyone.Called Nice Choices and apparently you can choose from 11 options but cant switch once the choice is made.
There are some details being drip fed through Twitter and Facebook including this yesterday-
Nice news: You know when, so let’s share some SPG Nice Choice promo offer details. You’ll have 11 different options, something for every traveler. Starpoints. Free Nights. Merchandise Discounts. Elite Credit. One option: Double Starpoints beginning with 2nd stay. No limits. Register May 1st at spg.com/nicechoice

For those struggling to requalify gold/plat there will be bonus elite qualifying nights-
What's what? With the upcoming SPG Nice Choice promotion, members can choose WHAT they want to earn from a variety of different rewards, including bonus Elite Qualifying Nights. Registration starts May 1st at Starwood Preferred Guest. Watch for more posts with additional reward choices.
Hopefully they will have this again next year as it looks though it might be a bit of a struggle in 2013 for me.
The one possible downer is that you choose which 3 month period you want for the promo from May to September-
SPG Nice Choice Details: Promo lets members choose from 3 earning periods: May-July, June-Aug or July-Sept. Reg starts May 1st. Nice, huh?

No problems for me as all our SPG stays in that period will be in July/August.It does mean though only 3 "quarter"promos instead of 4.

I'm also keeping a close eye on this - in May/June I have a few different stays, whereas in September I have one big stay at the same place, so will have to weigh up which period is best to nominate.

Yeah it's an interesting promo. Sure it means less promos this year, but it's nice to have so many choices.

If you choose May-Jul, I wonder if it includes nights that are part of stays commenced in April? (I have a stay starting in April, ending in May).

Still not sure if I should choose May-Jul or later...I'd definitely get 8-10 nights out of the promo in May-Jul, but potentially a lot more in the later months (but could also be none). Hmmm...probably take the safe option.

Here's the gist of the upcoming promotion:-

11 options

OPTION 1
Double Points beginning with 2nd stay. No limits.
OPTION 2
Every 6 nights, get 3k Starpoints (max of 9k)
OPTION 3

Bit of a let down really.several of those choices really aren't that great.however with 28 nights booked in July/August i guess it is triple points for me.
And febs for previous promos a stay counts if the date of checkout falls into the time of the promo.I doubt it will be different this time.

Is that confirmed, or speculation? Some pretty coughpy options there...I was at least hoping for double stays/nights.

Thanks, yeah I know it usually works like that, will have to wait for the T&C to see if this one's the same. Hoping to hit LTG this year. :D

It was reported on FT by a member with >800 posts that he received notice about those options. Sounds pretty credible to me.

Seems that way. I guess they figure with all the (excellent) 2012 enhancements, they can be a bit less generous with the promos. Find out soon enough.

I'll wait and see what officially pans out. To be honest when I heard that there was no opt list, I didn't hold high hopes for this promotion.

Option 5 is particularly coughpy, given they have recently had several stay 3, get 1 weekend night free promos.

Not terribly excited by that promotion - as SPG is not my first hotel program (owing to them rarely having hotels where I need to go), there's not a lot in it for me, sadly. A pity - because the double and triple starpoints offers were much better in the past.

I'll have to wait for Q3 or later.

As per the original rumours/speculation, it is now correct.

Lots of negativity around this promotion and I can say I am a bit disappointed. Wished to use a FRN or a FWN but staying 10 times to get 1 night is pretty lousy. In the end I opted for the stay 6 nights earn 3k, I might get 12 nights but who knows.

I opted for the triple points for all stays, if you stay for 15 nights. I stay weekly in Westin/Sheraton hotels, Sunday through Friday, so this works out extremely well for me, as I will now earn close to 10000 points per stay.

It does seem very ordinary for all but people that are likely to be in the Platinum range (15 nights in the qualifying period is the threshold for the best reward, triple starpoints). I'll be waiting for the next promotion.

yeah certainly seems that way. I sat down and looked at every option and tried to figure out what would be best for me.

what would you have liked to see as a promo option???

Previous recent promotions have been double points for stays and triple points for stays of three days or longer - they were generous promotions, but they were also good. They led me to go to Starwood rather than just going to a basic B&B or a cheaper hotel when a Hilton wasn't an option.

Apparently part of the reason these promos are so stingy is because SPG are funding most of them themselves, as opposed to the hotels (hence no excluded properties).

I prefer the older style promos.

logged on to SPG eariler and found a nice little surprise... :D
